Unless you count the Comanche...

I had 2 of these and loved them. Square headlights worked with body style along with the last generation of SJ trucks and Wagoneer. I remember the debut of the YJ. It was hated by most every Jeeper. It did have lots of improvements over the CJ overall, but a steaming turd in the driver seat would have gotten a warmer welcome than the square headlights.

it is why I got my first Comanche instead of a ‘Jeep’ of the day.

I owned a 93 YJ with the rectangular headlights, it was my least favorite aspect of the vehicle. I also didn't like the safety-rollbar that was extended to provide coverage for rear passengers. I always wanted round headlights, and the angled-down roll bar back that looked like the CJ. Old Skool for me in those days, 4 jeeps later...

I'm far from a Jeep historian, but I always thought the Wrangler YJ (1987-1995) was the ugly duckling of the Jeep Wrangler universe. The resale and online chatter seem to dictate that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

These are still round but I like the way this looks if only they would make a grill only option.

This one's not as bad as most of the other angry grills.

How come nobody makes a grill that would square off the lights to make it look more old school? I'm assuming it has something to do with the laws within interfering with the stock round lights? I'm so tired of seeing all these angry bird grills.
I am wondering - did you really mean square headlights (as most have assumed), or something different?

My unpopular opinion is that the YJ is still better looking than the JK. The JL/JT platform fixed so many issues that the JK had.
Barebones, sport cage, can start it with a screwdriver and vicegrips if necessary. Very true to it's roots.

They are actually seeing an increase in their popularity as used prices are rising.
