Grinding left front brake when in Selec Speed Control

Tested two days in a row. Front yard only, flat. Following owners manual instructions. Grinding front left (drivers) noise when in Selec Speed Control (SSC). Anyone else. 4LO and 4Hi are fine, without issue. Did not test further then 5 feet each time after grinding started. Calling Jeep/Dealer today for eval.

Braking at any other time is a non issue. Drives amazing!

Anyone else?

Thanks,

jay

I believe they all do this, but I have no idea what is causing that noise.

Selec Speed is only available in 4LO, by apply engine torque and braking. I've tried it and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
I thought it was pretty seamless, but I came from a 4Runner TRD w/crawl control and all hell was breaking loose on it. That was quite disconcerting the first time using it.

Let us know what you find out. I'll go out this evening and give it another go, see if I notice anything.

I think the OP meant that both 4Hi and 4Low work fine, by themselves.

Job.... always got a job...
I have not experienced this “grinding “ noise at all while using the scc. Interesting to see what is causing it.

I tried it tonight and at first I did get a little break modulation which did sound like grinding, but it was temporary.
I'm wondering if you increased the speed using the manual mode with the shifter? When I did, it stopped.

When SSC starts it is at it's lowest speed setting and if you are going downhill at all, you'll get the break modulation.

I remember this being temporary on an earlier Jeep and only in really rough or slick conditions later on. Get it checked though.. #lemonlaw

Stubborn bastard I am, I heard you and even my wife say ABS.... I still had to hear it from a dealer. I am used to ABS blowing out the brake pedal. Not used to all this modern tech. ( Or risking my $40K).

Service Manager tried to blow me off in writing.. '4LO is for snow and mud only"" WHAT, WTF. I arrived and they had that in writing. I asked for a mechanic to go for a ride. Found a nice gravel road, tested out Select Speed in 4 Low, got the noise -front left. Mechanic said ABS. I did not know or think the ABS was bing used for the speed control. Re-Wrote the service order to indicate his findings and out the door I want.

Did you get your answer on this? I spent the last three days wheeling my JT and using SSC a lot. Yes, it makes a grinding noise when ABS is breaking the truck. I sounds like a worn out break pad on a rotor. That is normal although it is a nasty noise.

The good part is that if one learns how to use it, it works really, really well. I managed to get myself into some difficult places the last few days. Once I was stuck on a slick hill and stopped. It was steep and slick enough that I started sliding back when I was stooped. I'd lost momentum and I didn't think there was a chance I'd make it up that hill.

I engaged both lockers, and used SSC in the lowest .6 MPH setting. Nothing seemed to happen at first, then the truck started to move. I was stunned. I thought i was backing out or winching up out off that hill. Slowly the truck made up the short hill and away we went.

It works great, but the ABS is noisy and sounds alarming , but it is a fantastic feature. Try it off road.

Yes, I resolved it with testing with the dealer. But thank you for the examples and reinforcement!! Very nice feature, I will get lockers someday.

I use it a bit when crawling over rocks. Allows me to focus on brake only and let the gladdy crawl over the rocks at .6mph. Much smoother than me
