You think you’re saving $8,000, you don’t know you are.
I know exactly what I’m saving off of MSRP. You do know that there is a chart provided for you monthly that shows Jeep’s MSRP and dealer cost right? There are incentives that they receive depending on sales volume and what not, but we know exactly what we are saving over what Jeep wishes they would sell for.

How much over MSRP did you pay? You sound mad. I get it though, I’ve talked to dealers here in California that swear nobody is buying these below MSRP, and especially below invoice. It’s for real though. My momma told me you better shop around…

I’ve got a good friend that’s the GM at 2 dealerships here and the best he could do was invoice. I’m saving roughly $3500 buying from Gupton after the $499 doc fee. He told me he didn’t know how they’re doing it but I should jump on it.

Nice deal. But those fees! That just totally blows it all!
Was your $500 a Military discount?

He wouldn’t even honor the TL 1% below invoice?

It was a work thing they let me add. He had to charge me a small fee to use it but I still saved another $300 or something.

I agree with this statement. Now, before I get flamed by a loyalist hear me out. I’ll first agree that they offer maybe the best discount on this forum that is no hassle! However, INVOICE is invoice and math is math. There was no way I could get up to 8% off of invoice with A $499 doc fee and the (*THE HIDDEN, I say hidden because they did not disclose it even though it is totally legitimate) $75 affiliate pricing fee. I’ll note that they now only offer 5% forum discount, 1% affiliate and 1% if you use their financing. As I recall from other readings in the forum that was not Chrysler capital (so, you’d loose out on any of those rebates if they reappear), but I’ve looked at so many plans that I may be fuzzy on their financing stipulation. Still, 5% +1% +1% is no more than 7% and that’s before the $499 doc fee that nearly approximates 1% of most Gladiator invoices and maybe more than some. So, that gets you down to near a net of 6% and that’s only if you take their financing. Well, a net of almost 6% below invoice sure isn’t any way equal to 8% below invoice. Now, I realize that most ANY DEALER has some type of DOC FEE. I’m not arguing with that, but in the interest of truth in advertising, you have to state your fees if you quote pricing. I recently ordered a new gladiator and attached a spreadsheet that I put together comparing Gupton‘s price in yellow to the local dealer that placed my order this week. I’ll note that my doc fee from bids in column F and I are included in the “OUT THE DOOR” price I was quoted. I always ask for pricing OTD and that way there is no confusion about hidden fees or final price. Row 18 shows the purchase price and row 27 shows the dealer discount under INVOICE and row 28 shows the savings from Msrp. Keep in mind this calc does not include any rebates, because there aren’t any in my region, but it’s a moot point of comparison, because any dealer will give you the same regional rebate. I have heard that some dealers sometimes can get a “special“ rebate tied to a vehicle that sits on their lot, but that really isn’t what we’re talking about here since we’re talking about ordering from Gupton and what their true discount is and my comparison of fees and such.

Oh, and the blue column was from an old deal, so it’s now old news. This of course may not be a perfectly layout, but keep in mind that I needed a way to compare multiple dealers within one format. Also, when working with discount calculations from invoice you’ll want to pull the shipping charge out, because it is a real cost on top of invoice, then after determining the discount just add it back in your final out the door number.
cheers!

You should have your dealer come on to this and the JL forum and sell 85-100 Jeeps a week like Gupton. I’m sure he would appreciate it, as well as those who feel like Gupton is too far of a drive. We need more below invoice dealers.
They may below invoice, and saving us some money, but I can guarantee you none of them are missing a meal. Win win for both of us.

@JET_83

I ordered last week from Gupton, $54,500 msrp, gupton price is $46,500 + 499 doc fee, or $47,000 if the idea of a doc fee offends you. (It does to me).

I didn't do the actual percentage numbers, don't care if the 8% in the title of the thread is dead-on accurate. I know that the handful of dealers in Northern Ohio are charging over msrp right now. And this dealer is selling hundreds of these deals a month, with just about everyone speaking highly of this gupton experience. Time will tell, I'll let you know how it goes in "12-16 weeks"

Some folks are overlooking the fact that this thread was started way back in September of 2020. None of the below invoice dealers are offering what they were before SARS CoV 2 effects took took their toll on the supply chain and the workforce.
If you have a dealer that can compete or beat the well known below invoice dealers such as Gupton, Petersens, Koons, TriCity, or a small handful of others, then please get them on these forums or at the very least share their information and your experience like @Pedal Metal did so that others may benefit.
If a doc fee offends you then by all means utilize public transportation. All dealers have them. $399 is a different percentage of a $51K MSRP Jeep than it is on a $61K MSRP Jeep. We all wish that fee was $85 like at Tuttle-Click but the reality is it’s a few hundred dollars at the vast majority of dealerships.

Where is your dealer? I'm in ohio and just emailed gupton for a quote this morning
I should really visit with the sales manager first, because even though we’ve done business before and everything went according to plan, the ink on this deal is just barely dry. Plus, I have to wait x weeks to get this rig before we completely sign off, and that’s when the deal is really finalized. So, even though the sales manager that I’ve worked with has been a straight up and to the letter type guy, I couldn’t say who he has to answer to and for what or what considerations were present at the time he agreed to this that he was confident he could sign off without repercussions from upstairs. For instance, do they receive bonus from Chrysler if they hit a certain goal and did they need this goal to get closer to that goal this time? I’ve picked up a lot of industry insider information over the years, but there are still things that I can barely make a whisper out of and I’ll likely never know unless a GSM would share a life and mile in their shoes. So, I‘ll just have to ask the Sales Manager if he and his GM would want a place on here Before I rock my boat.

Still, keep in mind that my yellow column was another local dealer that I got a quote from a SM for almost 4% back of invoice (3.8%) in about 15-20 minutes over the phone. Plus, I previous spoke with the person over at Spirit Lake on a previous deal and that guy seemed real real solid, so I’d encourage any one weighing their options to reach out to Spirit Lake too.

As for negotiations, I’ve heard it said that sometimes there is only one or two deals in a month that a dealer will reach for to get them past a threshold. Perhaps, that’s true, but maybe instead most dealerships just play just past the level of their competition?
So, I’m happy to share a few ideas I have on negotiation.

In any negotiation there is something to be said about timing, preparation and etiquette. Whenever I’m negotiating I try to have my ideas well thought out, know terms and concepts with precision. I try to have perfect timing by being considerate of when the other person is in a good place to discuss (talk during off busy times). For instance, don’t walk into a dealership on a sunny Saturday when they’re busy, make you contact on a cold Tuesday at 2’sh P.M. when it’s slow. Also, just learn how to be quite when you don’t need to speak. A lot of people talk when they’re nervous and I doubt it ever really helps and more likely hurts their end. Lastly, be respectful, it’s just business, but we can all be personable in business.
