Are your settings at LOW, as in the temperature slides? You can have the A/C on stun but If'n your temperature setting slide is at HI, you throw heat. Discovered when I thought I knew everything. Or if'n your sync is off, one side could be on LO (blue) and the opposite side on HI (red)

Depends on what the outside temp is and what temp your controls are set for. I've had heat come on even when it was 65 outside and my temp was set for 66 with a/c on!

Have had it happen a few times in the past when moving in between hot and cold. I have found that if I put my unit on Auto and something like 70 then just leave it alone I have no issues. We my wife screws around with the heat manually or the A/C Manually it can unexpected side effects

My wife's 2018 JL will randomly let in outside air...... Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I haven't noticed it yet with my 21 Mojave.

And another one............ there's one thread that's over a year old on the "hot air while AC is on", another with "Hot air coming from behind glove box" or words to that effect.

The ONLY time I've experienced it is on our long trip to and from CO a couple weeks ago. It was hot out, it happened after a couple of hours or more on the road, and it happened with my wife's extreme settings. She can't just let the truck do the work, she cranks one side down to 65 while the other is 68 or 69 and she thinks having the fan on high will cool the truck down faster (it does not normally otherwise auto would have the fan running FAST)
It never happens when she's not driving and in control of the HVAC - I find that funny.

this has been discussed time and time again on here, and no there isnt A resolution because the dealers and FCA thinks it’s normal.

mine will do this and blow full heat all the way to 61 degrees, and when and only when you drop it to “low”, temperatures set in the low 60s will actually reflect correct temperatures.

Mine never did that - it just let in "fresh air" every 40 minutes or so, and then only for parts of the trip. Once out of the sun later in the day, back in Iowa - it didn't do it and it hasn't since. It was only when driving for over a couple of hours and only on the right side and only for a while, then it's like it closed a vent and the AC went back to normal.
I felt like mine was normal - it only did that after a prolonged drive, only with the AC on, and only with my wife setting it down to about 66 for her side. It only lasted a couple of minutes at the most. Never more than 2 or 3 miles then it shut off the heat source. It felt like humid outside air for sure.
I find it interesting that's the first time I've felt it - and it was only on a long drive- makes me think it figures how long the truck has been closed up with no fresh air.
IT happened on "Auto" and with my wife's side set a couple of degrees colder than my side - and while she was driving. Is she asks me I'll just tell her it was a hot flash or something.

That's a good description of what mine does as well. Longer drive, HVAC on Auto, suddenly you get what feels like outside air being pushed through the system. Definitely noticeable, and an odd quirk, I just flip off the Auto, dial down the temp, and wait for it to sort itself. Then back to Auto.

It could be by design or a software quirk. Not am issue I believe a dealer would solve so I just let it ride.

From all the responses it seems we all have a wife who seems auto at 69 is not good to go. Though my ride was broken, now I have a better idea of the problem 🤣. Thanks everyone for the input.

LOL - yeah. with just me - auto, both sides 68, leave it alone. Maybe bump to 69 in the winter but usually just leave it alone at 68. And unless my wife turns up the fan speed, mine has been on auto since the day I drove it home November 2019.

The fresh air thing has been well discussed ... Yep, every 40 mins or so ... You feel a short burst of hot/humid outside air ...

I have thought that maybe one could wire a small switch in line with the actuator for the outside air flap and just turn off the switch (break the current flow) to the actuator so that it would not respond when the computer programming tells it to open every 40 mins ... As long as their is no accompanying sensor letting the computer know that the flap has opened and closed, it seems like it would be a quick fix for those who cannot tolerate this "feature" ... I don't care about it personally and it does not bother me ...

The funniest part of all of this is that Jeeps are about the leakiest (from an air standpoint) vehicles made ... The last thing we need is a "fresh air mode feature" ... Just drive, and the normal air leaks will keep you healthy and happy ... That opening flap does nothing to freshen up the cabin air ... And god help you if it opens when you are behind a black smoke belching 18 wheeler or manure hauler ...

It is certainly not a hermetically sealed chamber ... Seems like a feature developed for the cherokee and not changed/deactivated for the real Jeeps ...

Leaky? Mine is sealed pretty darned well. The dust and pollen in CO was crazy - the owners of the show cars were having to dust off cars every hour.
My truck was covered in it - yet, not inside the cab.
Driving through some thick dust due to the high winds and dry land between here and there, no dust and my allergies didn't act up while in the truck. It's not insulated like my Chevy was - but tight, yeah, even the high pressure car wash hasn't been a problem (SO FAR)

If all the windows are up, the last door closed creates a nice pop.
Mine is sealed pretty tight.

Yeah, not too bad and your right ... Still think that air gets in and out rather easily just due to the nature of things ...

Main point I was making is that with or without that flap opening, everyone would be perfectly fine ... Whatever the reasoning is, it is likely of minimal benefit other than to fuel forum conversation ...
