I just finished installing a new canyon front bumper and harbor freight Badlands Apex 12,000 pound winch. Other than having to do a little drilling to get the winch to match up with the plate, installation was fine. The problem is that the motor seems to only run in one direction. When I press the button marked “in” on the remote, the line spools in as it should. When I press the button marked “out”, nothing happens. It will free spool out though. any suggestions?

Sounds like the wire is loose or disconnected

What happens when you plug the remote in?

People Work?
Just a heads-up. If you have to take it back to Harbor Freight they're going to scan your ID into their systems or you don't get to return it. Receipt matters not.

I returned something completely unopened and unmolested, and with the receipt in hand just three days after purchase (weekend) and we around and around over them being able to get a copy of my driver's license to have on file in their computer systems forever.

Finally got a nice young lady to take take it back with just the receipt on the third attempt.

I'll still shop there, but I'm not buying anything that might have to be returned.

Check the blade connectors in the control box. I had to repair the yellow one if I remember right which had a bad crimp on it. I’m glad I tested before mounting. Good luck!

Oh! Looks like all the connections are internal as @Summitsearcher alluded to. Yeah, unfortunately it sounds like you’ll need to open the control box and peek inside.

Not a big deal to open it up. Pretty simple setup and the wiring is simple to understand.
