Alright, new here. First post.

Recently a front end accident Gladiator sport has come up for sale in a upcoming auction. The perfect candidate for a project I've wanted to do for a while. Hemi swapped gladiator.
I swapped a hemi in my last truck and I am familiar with the platform. From what I have read the 6.2 and 6.4 drop in nicely.

Now I imagine it's still gonna sell somewhat high for a written off truck, and I don't mind paying the price, I also don't mind paying good money for a 6.2 SC/ 392 pallet , my issue.....axles...or the price of them. 20k for built Dana 60s???

What other routes could I take...obviously the Dana's out of the 3/4 Rams would work but they're to wide (?)
Has anyone had any luck getting a shop to chop them down?
Or are their any other options you can think of. Cause I cannot justify 20k for axles on a weekend warrior garage build.

I mean stock 392 is running gladiator axles with no FAD...The m210 and m220 arent the d44's of old and will handle 37 or 38's pretty readily, especially since with the extra torque you could probably stay around a 4.56 or 4.88. Add trusses and gussets, rcv's and chromoly and you should be fine up to 40's if you keep half a brain when wheeling.

It's not torque that's the concern, it's sudden changes in torque. For perspective, Dynatrac's standard D44 JK axle isn't available for the JL/JT because they're too damn close. 3/8" axle housings and 32 spline axles will put up with a lot of abuse.

Where you will have issues is shock loading and more torque coming in or more rotating mass will make matters worse. With some chromoly axle shafts and maybe a truss I have no doubt the stock axles can handle street driven 38s with a hemi up front but if you want to wheel, you gotta pay.

The Dodges have the Dana axles to the 2gens. The 3gen Rams and up have the AAM axles. 3/4 ton and up use the AAM 9.25 axle. It's stronger than the Dana 60. with RCV's in it. You wouldn't break it. The 2gen 3gen and 4gen used a 4 link front like the JT, only larger. The 4.5 and 5gens uses use a 3 link. The weak link is the ball joints. The oem ball joints are junk. Carli, EMF and Dynatrac make good ball joints for it.

The rear uses different axles. a 10.5 or the 11.5. The 10.5 came in the 3gen Power Wagons with electric locker and 4.56 gears. The 4gen and up Power Wagon came with 4.10's and lockers. But you can get lower gears for it. The 10.5 you can't. All use a leaf spring rear up to the 4.5 gens. From there they use coils.

I think when you are done pissing around trying to morph something else in there, you will probably be at a small delta difference in savings or even a negative and just wished you bought the made for DANA 60's to begin with.

Only thing else I can say is maybe look for a used take off set even if it comes off a Wrangler. The rear DANA 60's on Wranglers can be morphed over with just a bracket kit and some welding.

been wheeling with the HEMI and stock axles with RCVs and Yukons on 38s with no issues so far - 18 months in - point being axles not a priority can do a little later down the road
