Huntsville, AL.. soon to arrive

Next Friday I will be driving the JT to Huntsville from S. FL for permanent change of station.Initially will be in temporary lodging, looking for a house. Wife and son will follow as soon as school is over in May. (hopefully I can find a house that doesn't require too much renovation...)

I'm excited that I will finally be in an area that has off-road trails that are more than mud and close trees!

We ran both jeeps through there this summer, and I only got a few stripes up high... above the tub, and on the top only.

Well, coming from another Civil Servant, the pay we make isn't nearly what the contractors make. When you compare compensation packages (pay + benefits), the military doesn't do that bad, and compare quite well with us other Government employees.

For the OP, enjoy Redstone Arsenal. If you ever get over to Fort Gordon, just holler.

Well, if Huntsville is anything like Augusta, then $494K would get you a mansion. It's crazy how much of a factor location makes to determine price over the actual build of a home.

Welcome to Huntsville. There are a few off-road parks, etc. around here. If you're on Facebook, look up the Rocket City Wranglers (RCW, Huntsville-based), Iron City Wranglers (Birmingham-based), and North Alabama Jeep Club; they can get you hooked into local Jeeping.

$450k will get you a nice house in the Huntsville metro. There's a local realtor (Army vet) in RCW. You can PM me and I'll put you in contact with him if you don't have someone already.

Pre-pandemic, there was a weekly Jeep meet-up on base at the food truck corral. Hopefully that will pop back up once food trucks and people are allowed back in.

I work on base too, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions of anything.

$500k would get you a small apartment or tiny condo in most socal cities.
