From what I have read, possibly on here, also possibly a fabricated story, is the whole redesign of the '24 grills on the Wrangler and Gladiator was to get more air in for the I6. 🤷‍♂️
Fwiw, I just put a 24+ grill on my magnusson sc JTR and it noticeable ran several degrees cooler pulling the same inclines than the previous grill.

“Back in the day…..” we dropped small block Chevy and Ford V8s into flat fenders and early CJ5s, even mil-surp M38A1s. That market was pretty well supported, but every swap was a new pain in the arse. That was with minimal wiring and no emissions controls. Can’t imagine what a “modern” swap like this would entail. I guess I’m just too old for all that excitement anymore 😜

Packaging gents. It will not fit in the current JT engine bay/configuration, that's why.

The I6-TT is on the same engine architecture as the 2.0T in the Wranglers, but with 2 more cylinders added on. I have already taken the measure measurements from the 2.0T in my JLUR, added 33% and it will not fit.

I have a good friend that operates a large dealer's service center. His words were "Hurricane engines have awesome power but they're garbage".

I'm glad my new Gladiator has the 3.6.

Well that sucks, I'm not surprised but I was hoping that motor would turn into some legendary I6tt power house, did he say what he saw was failing or having the issues?

Sounds like software glitches, hard failures, gaskets, turbos, etc. I'm a fan of I6 as well, just not a fan of squeezing blood from a turnip like we seem to keep trying to do with these little engines.

I can press him for more details, but as a whole, he is not a fan..

My '01 TJ has the 4.0 and it'll pull down a building (mostly due to gearing however). I just traded in a 6.7 Cummins on my Gladiator but I also have an 8.9 Cummins ISL in a Super-C RV, both of them are I6 and they both tow like a freight train.

Same here, 2 of my best motors ever were my 99 tj 4.0 and 03 cummins H.O. to bad the northeast salt killed everything else around them.

Not doubting you but whenever I hear “X engine will not fit” I’m reminded of the interview with the head of Jeep when the Gladiator was first introduced and he stated emphatically that the larger V8’s would not fit…. then a few years later and we see AMW stuffing 392’s and even 427’s in there with superchargers on them to boot so I’m not convinced…

There's a big difference between a v8 and an i6, it's this thing called length. Sometimes that really does matter... :D

Look how tight the engine bay is with said hemi swap or a 392 Wrangler. When it comes to space, 4.7" is a lot to over come.

Hurricane I6tt - 33.4 inches (H) x 28.7 (W) inches x 32.7 (L) inches
392 Hemi - 30.87 (H) inches x 27.13 (W) inches x 28 (L) inches

The numbers don't lie.

I want to see this motor pick up a lot of real world mileage and get some kind of idea about how it holds up, and if it is junk, or not. Then I would think about a swap…if someone made a kit. I would take a Hemi too, or an LS…I don’t really care, when the time comes, if I can afford it…

I have done consulting at dealerships. Never trust a service dept manager. Their entire lives are built on one word: "no."
