OP to answer your question, yes you can do the swap. All you need is the 8.4 from a gladiator, not wrangler otherwise your reverse camera will not work, the bezel and the 8.4 radio security code. It's plug and play. Will take a few sleep cycles to get the apps to load. To have the offroad pages, you will need the tazor.

I have a 2021 Gladiator with a 7 inch radio. I have a new 8.4 uconnect (from a 2022). I installed it and it woke up fine but was not functioning correctly...things like the HVAC was un responsive and it kept trying to go to Bluetooth pairing...I put the old one back in. Is there any programming that needs to be done?

Did you start on page 1, post 1 of this thread? And look for other "uconnect upgrade" or "radio upgrade" threads?
The answers are likely in the first page of this thread, and others.

You said "new 8.4" but if it's from another vehicle, you'll need to look at page one of this thread where they mention unlock codes.
It's either new, or it's used. You said "from a 2022" so it's not new. See prior posts about unlock codes.

Yes, it’s a very simple swap. I was done in under 45 minutes or so. 5 inches to 8.4. If you buy the radio used you will need the radio unlock code. It can be bought on eBay for $10 if you don’t want to bug your dealer.
care to expand on this? What info is needed?

Sure. When you purchase a used radio from another JT or JL it locks to the VIN. When you put it into another vehicle the car checks to see if it matches and if it does not will require an unlock code. Essentially the vehicle will detect the radio as stolen and will not allow it to marry to the new car. You can call the dealer if you are the original owner of this radio and provide the vin and they will supply the unlock code. If thats a hassle, you can just buy an unlock code on ebay for $5 -$10. Hope that helps!
