I'm getting emails prompting me to buy the upgrade for the navigation maps on my '21 Gladiator 8.4" Uconnect. They say it's on "sale" at $99 with free shipping. Has anyone done this upgrade and did you notice any difference? Would you do it again?

I don't use the onboard navigation much, I mostly use my phone, but it is nice to have the onboard navigation since it doesn't require phone signal.

I would say no.

Unless you need roads on your map that have been developed and are on the update.

Unless this is a different update, I don't believe there I'd anything aside from new roads.

Thank goodness for car play type phones, love my Google maps.

I do enjoy the unconnect, but wouldn't pay personally.

Check out this thread:

Lots of opinions on there.

Personally, I only update the maps on my head unit @ every 5 years, mainly as a back-up in case my phone were to fail for some reason. I use my "on-board" nav for short trips, but I use Waze on my phone for longer trips for better updates regarding traffic jams, police, etc. that might be ahead of me.

Mine is not even 2 months old. At this point for me and others like me it should have been upgraded before we took delivery. Not worth it at this point. I like the idea of doing it after 5 years old!

I bought my Overland in July of 2019. I ordered the map update in August of 2021 when it was on sale for $99. It included a Uconnect software update, along with the map update.

I learned from prior experience with my wife's Cherokee that the uconnect map upgrades are not worth the price. They are at best 6-12 months already "old" when they come out.

Things are much better and cheaper with Android Auto or Carplay and using google maps, etc which are constantly up to date.
