my guess is the 30k is an overblown estimate using basic labor rates and parts for an entire drivetrain and likely wiring harness and other odd bits.I'm betting they had to replace the whole drive train. Engine, transmission, axles (or at least the internals). But still $30K sounds a little high.
I wonder if insurance will cover...
