From the Manufacturer (Red Summit Machineworks):
LASER cut and CNC bent from 1/8" 5052 Aluminum, our Gladiator tailgate support panel resists corrosion, rotting, and warping better than your average 2" X 4". It weighs a mere 11 lbs so it doesn't significantly subtract from your payload capacity. We've dimple died the visible face for stiffness and curb appeal. The tailgate support sits at 7" tall (The height of 2 X 2" x 4" pieces of lumber stacked) so that you have a flat surface to carry plywood, drywall, or other such 4' x 8' materials in the bed of your gladiator without putting undo-stress on the tailgate cables.
