I bought a Gladiator at this dealership and I’m having the worst experience ever.
Here’s my story:
It’s really shocking that jeep keeps a dealership that disrespect and try to deceive costumers like this one.

Bought a 2021 Gladiator at this dealership for 32.998,00 , on the second day the car stopped working.

Luckily I bought it with extended warranty.

On the second day, due to the problem I told them I wanted to return the car. And here is the first lie they told me that to return the car I would need to still pay the taxes they paid for my car sale and the registration fees (something around 3000 dolars).

Later I discovered this is a lie, because in the state of California when you return a car to a store or dealership, they will have the taxes and fees back to then.

To don’t loose the 3000 dolars (that they made me believe I would need to still pay after returning the car) I accepted to have the car fixed.

They fixed the car, and on the same day I picked up the car, it was showing the same problem.

Again, I returned the car to then, told then I wanted to return the car again, they said I couldn’t, that for returning the car I’d need to pay the 3000, Bla Bla Bla, and offered me to choose a different car if their cars in case I wanted to swap the cars, making me believe that in this exchange I was not going a have any cost in case I chose a car that’s similar price.

Meanwhile they fixed the car again. And again in the same day the car showed the same problem.

And now I called then saying I really just wanted to return the car and/or change for another one.

After that I chose a car they had that was marketed with the same price I paid in my car (this was 20 days after I bought the car.

Then, I sent then the model I chose (my main criteria was a car with the same price, because I didn’t want to have any extra expense, I just wanted a car that worked).

So I chose a car that was marketed for 32998,00.

So I went to their store having in mind we were going a do a car exchange without any extra cost due to the reasons below:

1 - that’s what the sales manager made me believe.

2 - I chose a car that was the same price as my car, that I bought 20 days before.

3 - I was exchanging the car just because they sold me a car that doesn’t work (the car turns on only when he wants to).

4 - the car I bought 20 days prior to this started having issues on the second day, and I was trying to return this car since the second day.

Great, for my surprise when I got at the dealership instead of just exchanging the cars, they wanted me to pay around 6000 dolars to make this exchange.

the exchange was going a cost 4500 USD, but i was going a receive a 2500 check from the extended warranty i had bought in the first purchase, so it was going a cost me 2.000 usd.

and for this money he was going a exchange the cars, and give me a full warranty on the new car for 5 years or 24.000 miles.

Was it fair? No. Was it right? No. It was crazy to pay $2,000 to correct their mistake. But I just wanted to solve the problem, so I decided to pay the $2,000 and be done with it.

The next day, I went back to exchange the car. When I read the contract, I realized they were trying to charge me the warranty they said was free and the tax and registration fees again, totaling $6,800 in extras!

They tried to hide these costs, never mentioning them. The day before, they said the transaction would add around $100 to the monthly payment. After negotiating, they said they’d check the value again and give me a lower monthly payment.

Today, they showed me a monthly payment that was $120 more than what I pay now. I thought it was weird because the difference should be only around $60 or less monthly. But I thought, no problem, what matters is the amount we’re financing because I plan to finish all the payments in 3 or 4 months.

When I read the contract, I finally understood everything: the monthly payment was $120 extra because they were charging me the warranty ($3,900) and the sales tax irregularly and without mentioning, hoping I wouldn’t notice it because the difference on the payment was only $20 more than the value they showed me the day before.

So basically, after lying about the tax and fees not being refundable, forcing me to stay with the car, and after trying to charge me 6000 usd to fix their mistake, and after agreeing on charging me only 2000 dolars to change the cars, they tried in the most sketchy way possible to charge me 6.800 without telling me, by my back.

I am disappointed and shocked by the lack of honesty and transparency with which they treat their customers, they lied and tried to cheat blatantly.

Depends who you ask
It sounds like a pretty shady dealer. if you got an extended warranty on the Gladiator why don’t you take it to another dealer and see if they can repair it correctly? If you want to play hardball back with this dealership contact the states consumer affairs office and the DMV. I used to sell cars in Cali believe me they do not want the DMV auditing their deals.

Not really surprising. I have gone to 3 different Jeep dealers around the Bay area and none of them were any good. And before someone mentions Jeep cares, don’t wast your time with the either. They are worse than their dealerships.

This is why people hate buying cars.

OP, if you are otherwise happy with your Jeep, take it elsewhere to have fixed. Use that extended warranty you purchased there. A lot of certified shops can do the work with these third party warranties, not just dealerships.

As a dealer and former owner of a new car dealership ALWAYS GET IT IN WRITING laws differ from state to state most states don't have a return policy so if sign the paperwork your an owner. My suggestion is to not do business with that dealer take your car and warranty to a different repair facility have it fixed. Make sure when your buying a car or anything for that matter read the paperwork and understand it or ask questions DON'T SIGN ANYTHING UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR SIGNING!!!! Also the state dealer board or department are always good to help work threw issues like this Good luck

The signed contract is where you play hardball with the terms and conditions of the sale. If they do not refund, it would be in that contract. ASsfar as I know in California, there is no "Cooling off period", and most used car sales are "as is". For a used car, unless it is "certified pre-owned", I always take it to a reputable mechanic and for about $350 they will perform a complete vehicle inspection and assessment. If I were you I would start with the terms and conditions in the contract you signed.

I agree with this too bad you have to deal with a shady dealer in the Bay Area

Sorry to hear about your woes, OP. It sounds like you are in a rough spot and may have to engage with consumer protection to right things.

We also had a negative sales experience at the Santa Clara dealer when we were looking at a JKR for my wife about 8 years ago. They literally applied every high pressure sales tactic in the book one by one to see if they could get us to buy. It was almost funny in hindsight.

Fortunately we walked out the door and never went back. Sounds like they are still just as nasty today.

Fast forward to late 2018, we ordered her JLUR at Cabral CJDR in Manteca with a great sales experience. Same for my ‘24 Gladiator down at Tuttle-Click in Irvine. These were both pre-negotiated deals that were honored exactly as written in email with zero shenanigans and zero pressure. I’d happily recommend either dealer to anyone shopping today.

Please don’t limit yourself to SF Bay Area car dealers for any brand. There are exceptions, but most of them are terrible and do not care to keep you as a customer long-term. We’ve also found many uninterested or unable to negotiate good deals.

You can have a great dealership experience, but you have to investigate what’s around you and be willing to go farther afield (for the right dealer, not the car). It also helps to know what you want ahead of time!

Sucks to hear man. I take frequent road trips to the Bay area from down south. Hope I never have to visit any dealerships up there.

I bought my Jeep from Gilroy CDJR, and they even came to my home 95 miles away to give me a ride there to sign the papers and take delivery.

I ordered my Jeep from Putnum Jeep. They have a pretty good reputation in the Bay Area, compared to many other dealers

Also ordered mine 21' from Tuttle Click. Rob was great. Don't know why, but dealers around the bay seems shady af. Maybe the cost of living around here are so damn high that makes people doing shady shit 😂
