Before the salt for asking a noob question …I did search for exact words and I am an old fart to boot.

Is there a clearance increase for Sport max tow over non max toe?

Short bumper, plastic removed, 17 x 7.5 rims with 4. 10 gear.

Over 65, beach fisher, no rock crawler and ranch roads that don’t require 4wd except when mud but want 37s like it’s Christmas.

What say you?

Thanks

I think that most no lift Max-Tow is 35 tires. I would have to add 2 in. lift at least to fit 37s with out rubbing on my Max-Tow now with the stuff I have in or on mine. I'm not typing anything from my experience other than I could probably fit 35 in tires but close to if not rubbing. I'm still running OEM tires until I need new tires or get tired of mine shorter than my LJ and XJ. 😉
Now if you swap out for Rubicon fenders maybe.
I'm not sure though, a friend of mine has a Rubicon with towing package he has 35 tires on his he could clear 37 tires still. That's a apple to orange comparison. :like:

Thanks.
Since I have an extended warranty I could install a MoPar lift without voiding it although I would go fenders instead if it would work.

If you intend to tow I wouldn’t go over a 33. Just my opinion by the power loss w/35s tends to make owners complain on this forum about regearing and/or looking for more mpg.

i also have a jtmt and wont be going over 285/75/17z

Mojave? or Max Tow? Asking due to photo. Would think all JTs to run 37" tires would benefit from some lift to not rub or even jam at flex or lock. Looking closer at photo, it's a Mojave decal on standard hood.

My daughter wanted the decals for a gaming reference .
I tell everyone it’s not when they ask me what I paid.
Funny, it was a woman that told me it wasn’t a Mojave
while fueling.

I just went from 35 inch tires to 37s on my max tow yesterday. I have a 2.5 inch lift in front and a 3/4 spacer in the rear
and its a little closer fit than i would like. I also added Rubicon fenders a while back.

Max tow has the wider axles which helps prevent rubbing on turns. I chose 255-80-17 which are 10 lb lighter than the Rubi size, narrower--at the same width as the stock max tow tires, while being 33.1" spec height, slightly over the Rubi size and about 1.5" over the original size. I think they are the "safest" oversize to keep most of the tow rating.

Depends on how and what you tow. I dragged 4.5k across country on 315/70R17 KO2s and never had a complaint until I hit Payson, AZ and an ~8% average grade. Wasn't brutal but the truck had to do some work. Never had them rub yet but if you tow heavier or around mountains frequently then you're going to want something smaller and/or re-gearing.

For long term I would stick to a 35 or 33 even with the 4:10 gearing , 37s and realistically you are looking at a lift and probably regearing to truly have it back to even stock performance IMHO. I did 1.75 lift in front and 1" in back on my sport with 3.73 and debated 35s but stayed with 33s (285 70 17)cause of gearing.

Ah yes, the ol' "how much tire can I shove under my stock Jeep" question.

I am on Jeep #29. My advice, figure out if you plan to USE your Jeep, and HOW.
Pick a tire that does that best.

Unless "mall-cool" is your goal.
