As the title says, what are the largest tires one can put on an unlifted sport without rubbing? Has anyone run LT265/70 R17's? Can Rubicon take-offs really be used (seeing mixed messages). Any insight welcomed.

Unfortunately the answer is always going to be, it depends. Wheel and tire combination will affect what rubs. What you're doing (off road versus on road) will figure in. Whether you disconnect off road, etc will also impact things.

I put a set of the Rubicon 285/70R17 A/Ts on my stock Sport. For wheels I have Pro Comp 51 Series Rock Crawlers, 17"x9" with 4.25" back spacing. Going straight down the road, there is no rubbing, but I had to remove the aero-wing things from the bumpers because they rubbed when I turned. After removing the aero-wings, I have no rubbing issues, but just my preference, I'll probably put a small spacer lift on.

Here are a couple of pictures for reference:

Not sure which ones you're referring to, but according to CarolinaGladiator's signature, his are JK wheels. Mine are Pro Comp 51 Series Rock Crawlers. More details on mine in my post, above my pictures.

34" tires on stock wheels with stock bumper Sport S Max Tow, mine rubbed when max turn left or right and off road with moderate suspension articulation. Latter I added a 2.5" lift, and still got/get a little rubbing in the front with moderate articulation and max turning, but rare. Wheels with an offset would help eliminate this, I have cut the wings off bridging that gap between the front fenders and stock bumper. New steel, winch capable bumper on the way, and that will eliminate the occasional off road rubbing at max turn and articulation.

285/75r17 Falken wildpeaks with 17x7.5 rubicon rims... no rubbing and didn’t have to remove anything. The tires are just under a 34 but look a lot larger than 285/70r17s. I attached a comparison of the two.

I was looking at 315’s but technically by the wildpeak standards they shouldn’t be mounted on a 7.5 rim so that was a limiting factor for me. But I am digging the tucked profile look which also results in a more limited amount of spray I get from the tires on the body

Love the tire size you went with. Do you happen to have a side view of this size?

There were taken with 285/75r17 falken wildpeak ATs, rubicon shocks only (not springs) and you are able to leave the air damn in place, which I like.

I now put on a 2” spacer kit with from rubicon springs (last picture). While I did like the initial set up, the spacer lift drives the same but looks so much more proportional and the rake is mostly gone by adding front rubi springs.
