Leitner vs JCR vs ? - Bed Racks

Am debating between these. Like that the JCR uses factory rails / seems like I could easily take on/off. Mainly for accessories - no RTT

the accessories for Leitner seems to be one of its advantages

don’t know build quality between them

other options? Thoughts?

any preferences? What’s the general sense

jcr is off the bed, can use a soft rollup tonneau like they posted. leitner installs from inside the bed. limits hauling and no tonneau. but side pods seem super useful. these are the conclusions that I have come up with. haven't seen either in person on a gladiator. have seen leitner on other rigs

Another option is RCI. Priced closer to JCR and will mount into the bed rails. Their heights are 12” and 18”. The 18” might be nice. 6 more inches then the low JCR but a few inches lower then the roof.

To me the leitner isn’t worth the price. Few hundred more for the rack and couple hundred for the box... For me, I’m going to assume risk with not having the cover and boxes when the rack is on. If there is something in the bed I’m probably going somewhere or doing something. I don’t normally leave a lot in my bed. The rack will come on and off as I need it.

We've got some customers that pull their racks between trips, very quick process.

The JCR rack does not remove easily if you use the carriage bolts and plate inside the factory rails. The bolts stick out through the slots in the rack base plates. And because the slots do not go all the way down the plate, you can not lift the rack straight up. You have to loosen the legs of the rack and flex them to get them past the bolts.

I was going to make plates with threaded holes that slide into the rails and the bolts go in from the outside. Then I can remove the bolts and lift the rack straight up.

I’d like to see a Leitner install with two dirt bikes or scooters in the bed. If that is doable and maintains some usefulness of the racks, I’d be sold.

I have the JCR half rack (12.5"). It is good quality. I have a RTT on it. The half rack is great for accessing the tent during set up and putting away. It also helps a lot with gas mileage. But it is kind of a pin to get at the gear under it. The main reason I got the half rack is that I would eventually like to mount a canoe above it and a full rack would be too tall with a tent and a canoe. One complaint I have is that does take almost a month to get it. And I would swap out the hardware for stainless.

That was the reason I was looking at JCR; something I can take on and off as I need it or the bed.
Now I wish I had shot a video of me removing mine again yesterday.

I simply loosen and remove the 8 nuts from the rail bolt assemblies, push the bolts back further into the rail channel, and pull the upright bars one at a time “in and up”gently setting them back riding on the recessed bolts slightly rested on the plastic bed rub rail. Then with 2 people lift and walk back above bed. It’s seriously less than 3-4 minutes to remove.

Putting back on is slightly more hassle (a few more minutes) because you fiddle with aligning the bolts in the rails and feed through the back of the uprights. I don’t mean to be a JCR shill (but I kind of am) but this is not very complicated. Considering the utility of the system, being able to use it on demand with minimal hassle is an awesome game changer for us.

That all said, maybe the solution can be reversed with a tabbed nutsert plate in the trail rail with bolts being inserted from the “outside”, that way, no interference. I’ll throw the idea in the suggestion box.
