Ahhh, gotcha. So this behavior is normal. My computer knows I have different gears as is adjusting power bands to match.

In my example slowing to a stop from 60 mph, the jeep doesn’t downshift from 8th to 7th until I’m at about 800 rpm. I’m having to lean on the brakes much harder to stop while it slowly gets down to 1st at a complete stop.

Forgive my ignorance on this subject…regearing is a totally new concept for me.
So…why don’t you just pop it into manual mode and pop the shifter a couple 2-3 times. Manual mode works wonders…at least it does with my 3.0 anyway.

Thought about that too. I’ve been really babying things until the inspection and fluid change is done. Once I know everything is all good I won’t mind manual downshifting at all.

I’d say do your 15 minute break in drives in New Braunfels and then cruise home at 65 mph. They’ll do the first 35 mph drive for you so you only need two more at 35 and two at 65. I hung out at Buccees while I let my Jeep cool down in between drives.

At least you’ll hit 500 miles pretty quickly!
Thanks for the tip ? I’ll probably stay in town over night and drive around alittle before the long drive home the next day ?

You’ll learn real quick how many is too many. Also, the computer will prevent it from going into too low of gear. While we have different transmissions, I believe they are similar.

Man the difference between your 4.10‘s and the new 5.13’s will blow your mind. So awesome having 7th & 8th gear back. The initial break in trips you have to do are a bit of a pain.

Be careful when you pull out of their shop onto the I35 access road when you leave. I got a lot of horns honked and a couple of middle fingers for cruising at 35 mph…people are fun.
What was the break in procedure you are following?

This was my recommendation too, manual mode when you need it. I mutter "push down pull up" a lot to myself when I'm on the trail. ?

So I will be even more excited when I get my truck back this week from 3:73s to 5:13 ?

I've had 5.13's in my JT for about a thousand miles now. I own an AEV JT370 Rubicon Gladiator that came with 37's from the dealership with 4.56 gears. I felt the thing was under-geared as it would only shift into 8th either on level roads or on a slight decline at highway speeds.
I inquired why AEV would produce the vehicle under-geared this way. I discovered that their gear supplier topped out at 4.56 and did not offer the 5.13s, at least that is what I was told from another major supplier.
Once the 5.13's were installed I began recording the mileage and making notes of the performance. I have it all documented on my build thread listed below. I can testify that 5.13 is a near-ideal ratio for this heavy vehicle with an underpowered motor. I now have 8th all the time on the highway and a lot of the time on country/rural roads. I would suggest that even 5.38 would be a good gear ratio to swap to if it were not for the small-diameter pinion gear in that ratio specification.
I have recorded a low of 14.5mpg, a high, I believe of 17.4, and an average of around 16.5 for mixed highway/in-town/rural driving. My testing is not all that scientific, but it marries up well with the previous testing I did with the lackluster 4.56 gear set.

You're absolutely right. With the 37's and excess weight I've added with a bed rack and steel front bumper and winch the 4.10's were awful. To me the whole mechanical advantage concept of how the gears do what they do is black space magic but the difference is incredible. Gas mileage has gone up, torque is back, and I'm going uphill (well slight inclines) in 8th gear. What a difference man!

Excellent! Good to hear. These JT's are terrific once you start to get them dialed in.
Now, Mopar, can we please have some horsepower, pretty please?

We just finished my JT on 37” from 3:73 to 5:13, while we were putting it back together a guy came buy that built race cars for himself, his son and grandson, lots of mechanical experience. We were discussing break in on the gears and he over heard me, I asked how they did it in the race cars, he said we don’t… it’s done on the track. He said if whoever put them in knew what they were doing and it had a good pattern they ran it hard. I asked about the heat cycles on tempering he said, who tempered your new truck when you bought it? You did on the highway on the way home same with your engine. He also said don’t get me wrong we listen to the race car engine running on a stand check for leaks get it up to temperature, let it cool down the run it at close to redline for a little bit drain the oil look for metal put it in the car and give it hell. I think I’m still gonna take it easy for a while and follow some sort of break in. Just floors me how different people’s opinions are on the same subject about break ins.

Haha...sounds like that guy knows his stuff!

The guidelines that Exodus 4x4 gave me are straight from Revolution Gear's website and have to be followed for warranty work. How they would know I actually followed their break-in guidelines, I don't know, but I did anyway.

Had the 500 mile check up done, fluids changed, and now I'm driving it like I stole it. That MPG increase I got with them at first has definitely disappeared now that I can drive over 65!

What part of Texas are you in?? I’m south of San Antonio but run with some guys from central Texas Brady area.
I did take it out last night after I got the oil in and put back together (not programmed until today when I get off) did a no no and got up to 70 hit 7th turned around and slow cruised back to the shop just listening for any odd noise or howling. Very impressed with how quick the shifts were to 6th wasn’t expecting it to get up that much faster. It’ll get a good break in tonight and hopefully be ready for the Beach cleanup on South Padre this weekend.

Just saw Blanco, we go to Albert and Luckenbach quite a bit. Have some family friends there in and around Blanco.
