They say below invoice but I’m sure it’s MSRP, this seems to be a common misconception on here, invoice is what the dealership gets it at
No, if's not.
I've got the numbers in detail. There's MSRP for everything from the base truck to every option. Then there's FWP - which is the "invoice" price they are using.
I've done the math, and when you get 5% under invoice, it's 5% under that FWP
When tread lightly says you get 1% under invoice, it works out to 1% under that FWP which is Factory Wholesale Price.

Want one better? Granger. 4% below invoice, $180 doc fee. That would be 0.4% in fees on a glad like mine.
Doc fees are set by the State of Iowa for Iowa dealers. It's 180 no matter the dealer here.

Funny you say that when I’ve never paid one in my state

So you'd buy off the lot and then forever do without something you maybe really wanted.
Buying off the lot just to be done with it makes no sense to me just to have it now and then spend years without what you REALLY wanted.
Do you buy other things that way - gee, I'll take this house because it's cheaper even though it's 30 minutes farther from work and it's only 2 bedroom (but you have 4 kids)

I searched for hours, the whole country, literally, no one had ANY Overland that had the equipment I wanted, not even in 2nd or 3rd choice colors. Why bother buying if you can't end up with what you really need or want?

(you can't order snazzberry any more - my dealer showed me is order screen and that color had been removed)
Nick, I’ll tell you why I do, because I don’t want multiple people test driving mine and putting miles on it that isn’t there when I factory order one.

Isn't the final tally all that really matters?

In my mind people are nuts to pay MSRP or above unless they're not in a position to wait for that custom order. From what I've seen most (even local) dealerships will honor affiliate discounts (e.g. Tread Lightly). That's 1% below invoice, which is a huge discount over paying MSRP.

My dealership doesn't charge a separate doc fee either. But at the end of the day, the final price is what matters. They are going to make their money either way, the doc fee is just already included on dealerships that don't charge it.

If you're still getting a good price, even with the doc fee, why harp over it? The only times I've ever had a problem paying one is when the dealership doesn't tell you about it until the end, and you don't find out until you're going over terms. I walk out of those dealerships.

Doc fees are legislated state-to-state. Some states say dealerships can’t charge them. Some states set the doc fee for all dealerships in the state. And some states just say dealerships can charge any doc fee they want, but they MUST charge all customers the same fee.

The end result is, if your dealership is allowed by law to charge a doc fee, you’re going to pay it. Period. You can’t get out of it.

Now, if you want to negotiate the price of the vehicle lower to make up for the doc fee, that’s a different story. But you can’t not pay the fee.

For example, dealerships around me charge a $600-800 doc fee. By law, they have to charge this fee to EVERY customer, because they’ve labeled it a “fee”. No matter what, your sales contract will include this fee. However, I always negotiate the price of the vehicle an additional $600-800 lower to negate this fee. So technically, I’m not paying the doc fee, even though the sales contract says that I am.

Or maybe I am paying, because I could’ve negotiated the price even lower. Who knows? Who cares? I certainly don’t care what anyone else pays for their truck. As long as I’m happy and the salesperson is happy, then it doesn’t matter. So let’s move on. Ok?

Let me use my build as an example to attempt to clarify it.

MSRP
$62,720
Invoice (FWP)
$59,035
6% below invoice + 1% for Tread Lightly (Gupton as an example)
-$4,132
Assume $2,000 in doc fees (significantly above reality, but to make a point)
+$2,000
Total after fees
$56,902
Total if you refuse to to pay doc fees and just pay MSRP:
$62,720
Total that you left on the table by refusing to pay doc fees:
$5,818

You're ok with leaving close to $6k on the table?

Don't engage with him. He's just a forum troll that hangs out and pollutes threads like this. You're better off not paying him any mind.
