Know of anyone? LOL

2004 Jeep WJ (Grand Cherokee Special Edition) with 4.0, automatic, etc.

"Check engine light" came on, I use Torque Android and my bluetooth OBD thingy to find what happened and got this report below.

So I am looking for price and availability of the O2 sensor - Bank 2 Sensor 1

Before anyone freaks out - yes, the 4.0 has a bank 2 - the exhaust is split into front and rear, and each half has two O2 sensors - there are 4 on this thing (none really easy to get at)
I need the top sensor for the rear bank.

Wish I had one TODAY as it's 60 degrees - PERFECT day to stand in the 20mph winds (gusts to 35) and swap an O2 sensor but figure I can get a better price and the CORRECT verified part here. Besides, it's always windy here.

Hi Bill,
Not sure if you want to look at this first and validate if you have the updated software. There should have been a label placed on the PCM.

If the sensor has indeed failed you can find the replacement here https://parts.allmoparparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-oxygen-sensor-left-side-before-catalyst-56028994aa

Wow, thanks. I have no idea if it's been flashed or not - will have to take a flashlight out and check to see........ I don't know if there's a way to read the version number aside from a label or not. If there's no label I'll need to try to find a way to figure that out.

If this is not flashed and that's an error, I'd save a chunk of change and time replacing an otherwise ok O2 sensor.

Thanks much!

As it goes, my WJ was built 7/10/2003 (seems awfully early for a 2004 model year)
So it's a week after the 7/3/2003 mentioned in the bulletin.
I'll have to check the PCM tomorrow but it would seem with the 07/10/03 build date it should have the later PCM software.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to July 03, 2003 and equipped with
a 4.0L engine (Sales Code = ERH).

Mine is MDH 071013 and July 10, 2003 at 1pm (the hour 13)

Bill that might be like one of the codes that my LJ has started throwing now too. It's been throwing a O2 bank 2 code off and on for about 2-3 years now a different one popped up a few days ago when I started to drive it to work, to "rest" my JT.🙄

I actually took a chance and used software on phone with a bluetooth adapter and reset the code. I ran it through a couple of cold start cycles and the code never returned. I ended up selling the WJ in May as I just wasn't driving it much any more and it had to sit exposed to weather under my shop lean-to. The O2 sensor code never returned.

Sort of strange, the date of the PCM was such that it shouldn't have made that "mistake" about the O2 sensor heater - and thankfully it only did that one time and stayed cleared.

Interesting, as I have the same problem O2 sensor problem on my 03 TJ. It doesn't want to go away and has been around for over a year now. Where do I find if there is a TSB for the '03 TJ's?
