What lug nuts are you all using for your aftermarket wheels. I ordered Black Rhino wheels and the company said factory lugs won’t work. Said I need acorn conical style. I ordered a set with 60 degree angle. Is that correct?

What you were told is correct - 60° conical seat, which is also what your JT uses for the factory wheels The issue with the factory lugs is that the overall diameter is too large to fit down into the aftermarket wheels lug holes. Most aftermarket wheels, including Black Rhino, utilize recessed smaller diameter lug holes which need smaller diameter hardware.

With that being said, you'll need a smaller diameter, or spline drive, 14x1.5 60° lug kit.

Is there a splined lug nut option that retains the overall stock look/size? Is there a downside to using splined lug nuts - other than needing the specialized /dedicated socket?

To add to what @Discount Tire said, you also have to consider your center cap design. I have the American Outlaw "Lonestar" wheels that Discount Tire sells, and spline drive lug nuts will NOT work. They won't allow the center caps to be installed properly. So, I had to source some open end lug nuts to use with the wheels. Here's a link to what I bought, but you can find them in other places:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0798VZQ8H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

As far as the need for a special socket goes, the pros are added security and the cons are that you have to keep track of that socket or else you're screwed. And, the sockets are often fragile metal and can break easily if you don't fully seat the socket on the lug nut and keep it perfectly perpendicular to the lug nut as you torque it. I've found that if you're really careful, it's not really a big issue.

Thank you for your question, we offer a forum member discount when buying 5 tires. PM coming your way.

As WXman mentioned, if you have a closed cap you will need a open lug kit so it will fit under the cap.
