M1102 builds?

Recent Gladiator buyer and Jeep convert. Found a Humvee Trailer local for a good price and have always wanted to build my own trailer. Does anyone have experience building and or just buying one and if so, how’s it working for you? I’ll not use it for anything too technical but will go off-road on dirt roads receiving little if any maintenance.
Sleeping 1-2 for only 2-4 nights each; hunting and camping by myself mainly. I don’t want a roof rack/rooftop tent full or even part time on the truck so this seems the best route. Besides, I need a winter project to keep me out of trouble.
Go or no go with the Gladiator? Too heavy?

I dont' think its too heavy. But at 1400 lbs with only about 1500 lb capacity its not very efficient. As a point of reference, I have a STS utility trailer. Its aluminum and gavalnized steel. It weighs about 350# and has an official capacity of 2650 lbs but uses a 3000 lb axel. (it doesn't have brakes so the legal limit is determined by the fact that the gross weight of the trailer can't exceed 3000 lbs)

Obviously the Gladiator can tow much more than this. But you need to reduce that significantly if you are going to tow off road.

If you got a deal on it, then roll with it. My STS was about $1600.

But if someone was thinking of paying $5000 for a HMMV trailer, I'd say there are much better places to start.

This one is $1500 listed so I’d guess I could get it for $1300 depending. I certainly don’t mind hauling less weight so will consider other lighter options like yours. Thanks!

This is what I have.

Its obviously much lighter, but nowhere near as tough. That's what you are paying for (in weight) with the military trailer. It will take more abuse than you could ever imagine. Also, mine has a heavy duty axel, which gets the GVW up to 3000 lbs. I actually just hauled 3500 lbs of gravel in mine a couple of weeks ago. Ha.

Just across town so no big deal. Amazingly, my wife's Volvo wagon has a 3850 lb (1750kg) towing capacity.

The price has gone up a bit, but I'm sure you could find a discount on this locally.
