From the start I used a Tazer to turn off the ESS and all was good until the AUX battery went bad on my Rubicon
The battery's where only 1.5 years old
When the AUX battery faild one morning I tried to start it 3 times and on the third time all went black and it fried my 8.4 radio (non repairable)
$750 for a used radio and $200 for a new main battery
From that point forward both my Willys and Rubicon I have done the AUX battery delete
Number 1 rule. Never never use dissimilarly battery's in a system
Yep, mine was at 19 months. It didn't fry everything, but it looked like the 4th of July with all the lights and gauges going on a off. Entertaining.

Looks like i need to replace both of my batteries...

What are everyone's thoughts of the o'reilly platinum vs duralast platinum?

i can get the batteries in tax free nh at an autozone, but the only local ish o'rilly's in in MA.

side question... is the odyssey worth the extra $80 for the main battery?

I think the batteries available from the Auto Parts stores are all of similar quality. NAPA used to be a good option, I have not bought one from them for a long time. Walmart has a 94R with a four year warranty for around $175.

I don't think the high priced batteries are worth the extra cost. Anyone that has bought one will usually say they are. It depends on your needs and budget.

thanks, that is what I figured. the local wallmart didn't have any of hte 94r in stock yesteday, so i was looking for what i could find right away...

But in the end, by battery wasn't the issue with my start stop light... i found out it was on because i had a flashing CEL for about 10-20 seconds on my way to work yesterday. apparntly that causes the warning light and prevents the start stop.

The local midas did a load test and my battery is fine for now. I will wait for a warm day and switch out the batteries at some point in the next few months. I have a 2020 with 86,xxx miles... so I am close/

Thanks for posting your battery replacement experience. That is the way I will end up replacing both of my batteries one day. It is not wrong to keep your aux battery. Some people are not wired right and want their jeep to match. That is a joke btw.

Flashing cel could mean that it was misfiring. I would have been looking at that issue. Look for a scan tool that can look for misfires.

they scanned it. it was a cylinder#1 misfire... this was the only time it has happened. if it happens again, they will investigate. I'm getting close to needing spark plugs, they said it might also be a coil pack.

I hear you! Too easy to rush through the procedure in those temps.

Of course it waits until it's cold as balls to give me a fit. Honestly, it took me longer to make room in my shop than do the job. Picked up both batteries from AutoZone (it's close by). I pulled the main battery (yes, remember to cover the hot to leads, I used rubber gloves). Jacked up the passenger side, removed the wheel and fender liner. Bingo!!!! Plenty of room to work. Swapped both batteries out, fired right up and put it all back together. 2 hours start to finish with several hot coffee breaks and lunch in the middle. Not too much to it.

I actually got the genesis relocation kit and put that in on a warm day. Now when the battery does die, it will be nice and easy to get to. I’ll probably just buy the other half of the kit then and go dual battery instead of putting a new little one back in.

My early build Nacho 2021 would not crank last night.
Of course it was when I was trying to get to a Christmas party.
So that is why I am on this thread this morning.
I've been driving more than 60 years.
This is the most complicated vehicle I've ever owned.
Four years for a battery? I've run batteries for seven years.
Where was I...

Oh, if the main battery is going to be pulled anyway
is it still better to take the AUX out through the wheel well?
Can't the AUX be taken out from the the top?

The JT, especially with a cellular equipped head unit, has a constant parasitic draw. If the batteries are not kept charged, they will fail faster. There is a lot of heat retention under the hood, which also affects the life expectancy. The average life span, with OEM batteries, is about three years.

I went through the wheel well when I changed the Aux Battery the first time. I will go through the top the next time it needs done.

Thank you. This morning I was able to jump start the Gladiator
with my old work truck, a 2006, 2500HD Silverado.
Drove it to the local parts house in my small town
and had a new main put in for $175 and a couple of six packs.
I held off on the AUX battery.

Been having the same ESS issues for about a month until last week when my JTR wouldn't start. I jump started it and then charged the batteries but it seems like the Aux Bat is done after getting the A icon on the dash. I went ahead and ordered both batteries through Amazon. I ended up ordering AC Delco. Said shipped and sold by Amazon. The price for both was great. Hopefully, I won't be getting knock-offs. All should be good after I install them except, I can't shake the desire to trade the Gladiator in for a new 2500 Duramax either Chevy or GMC. I like the Gladiator but it doesn't really shine on many things except looks, nostalgia and off roading. It has the wrong gas engine on it, gulps gas and tow capacity is mediocre at best.
