Those of you choosing a manual transmission what will you go with? All models except the Rubicon will be 3.73 and the Rubicon is 4.10. I personally don't need all the extra goodies that come with the Rubicon but having the 4.10 would be nice, its going to depend on how big the price gap is going to be. What will you choose and why?
I’ll be getting 4.10s and a manual Rubi again. Had it on my previous JK and it worked perfect with 37s and gas mileage was decent and I used it for lots of long distance driving.
My heart says 4.10 MT Rubi, but the Sport with the Max Tow package makes a compelling case to save some $$ and have an easier stop&go commute, while still getting the 4.10. Besides, I always have the M3 if I want to have some fun and row my own gears....
The 1st gear on the new manual trans. is deeper, but 2 through 6 are all taller than the outgoing trans. AND the new models have larger tires on them. So you want the deepest axle gearing you can possibly get to make up for that. I agree they should have 4.56 or 4.88 from the factory as an option.
As others have said, this is not true per the documentation we have received from Jeep on reveal day. The Sport/Sport S Max Tow package will have 4.10 gears and wider axles similar to the Rubicon (less the Rubicon specific goodies). Good question! The Max Tow package group is finally available in the configurator. Edit: I created a thread dedicated to the Max Tow package group here.
Josh, I saw at the very bottom of the last page of the spec sheet. I’m a nerd, I know. There it lists what the max tow package comes with.
So Max tow isn’t available with a manual transmission meaning unless you get a rubicon you won’t get the 4.10s. That sucks.
