A 2024 attempt to make it through the Magruder Corridor, a road placed between two wilderness areas and two states. Over 100 miles long- one way, dirt most of the way (or snow). This was my first time there... over a million miles of wilderness on either side of the road. Enjoy part 1!

I have seen so many U tube videos of this I feel like I have done it. But I really do want to do it. I'll do it alone if I have to with the dog. Let us know how to plan for it.

When I rode the Mcgruder corridor, it was not one way. Has that changed?

No... Just saying that the measure of the trail in either direction ONE way... not a round trip trail...is over 100 miles!
What’s the bucket for? Water?
Forest service rules... you have to have a shovel and a bucket.... in case the fire gets out of control... you can use it to throw dirt or water on a fire.

According to the sign, the bucket is essential, and water is optional. Food and gas? Not needed with enough dual-purpose moonshine.
Wait for part 2.... the Axe will also become a needed tool!

There is no gas in Elk City Idaho... so if you are coming from the west, plan on getting fuel at one of the towns nearby as you get closer. There is fuel on the Darby side- but the town was down to one station working when I went through. I brought 4 extra gallons. The forrest service requires a bucket and a shovel in case of fires. I think you can drive straight through in about 10 hours, but there are too many side roads to really see everything... I would take 4 days and do some exploring. Have a chainsaw. Some sections on only the width of one Jeep for 1/2 a mile- so a very small trailer might work- but it is not recommended. I would guess in September bow hunters and such might make the road busy on either end. there are lots of dispersed camping areas along the way. Cell phones is not likely to work over most of the trail... so download your maps or use a GPS that is sat. based. There is a ranger station on either end of the trail that you could check in with to be sure it is open. Snow storms can close the trail in the fall, and it is just this week now open all the way through... but that is one lane. Some drifts are cut through only as wide as a truck. Bring food and water, bear spray! 2.3 Million acres of wilderness to the south, 1.3 million to the North. The road itself is not bad... dirt and gravel- you will not be rock crawling- unless you take some of the more difficult side roads. Bring a camera.

I rode the Mcgruder corridor on a motorcycle in 2015. It was part of a trip that my friends and I called "The Six Days of Idaho."

A fine time was had by all. I've been to Idaho 3 times. In 2007 I went to ride the LOLO Motorway. Then in 2015. The last time was in 2021. The 2021 trip was with a jeep instead of on motorcycles. We spent a week near Riggins and a week in Challis. I'd love to go back.

The Idaho parts are from 3:40 to the end.

I'd love to go back and see it again. Crossing the Mcgruder Corridor is a serious adventure ride, worthy of the time and money required to plan and execute the trip. I didn't know about Custer Ghost Town until we rode in from the east on the Custer Toll Road. That was a fabulous day.

I saw this sign in a restaurant on US 12. It captures the spirit of Idaho very well.

I also have a '14 Ram 2500 4x4 with shell camper and a Thuren soft ride suspension. It has a much better range and more room. Do you think it would do those routes without damage? It will ride smooth and really goes down the freeway great.
