So I want to pick up the new brushless twin compressor and go the onboard air route. I've had the twin compressor and tank in the little suitcase for a few years, love it. I like the mobility, the simplicity, etc... BUT I've got a master plan to swap hoods (from my Mojave to a Rubicon) and all that, add in the 4xe cowl corner, and install a twin compressor up above the spare 37" tire!

I've got the hood stuff already and the 4xe cowl is in route. I need to order the compressors and other air parts. I want to have the tank, because I love having the air blower tool to dust off stuff out in the desert. It seems to work a lot better when the tank is full of air, not running only on the compressors. They're great compressors but not powerful enough to really pump out the air for that little gun! Is having the tank inline from compressor to the 4xe cowl connection going to slow down filling up tires? If so, how? I essentially want to recreate the little suitcase set up, hardwired on my Jeep.

I'm trying to compile a list of ingredients for this fun little cake. Hoping you guys can help me.

+ Twin air compressors
+ Tank
+ 18' air line (tank to 4xe cowl tee) (should/can I use larger diameter line?
+ 3' air line (compressor to tank)
+ 2x ARB hose coupling w/dust cap (twin hook ups at 4xe cowl, no switch or pressure gauge needed)
+ Tee connection behind 4xe cowl
+ 10' wire (compressor harness to Jeep aux. switch wiring under hood)

EDIT: Just realized the 40amp aux switch isn't gonna cut it on the new brushless twin compressor! I don't want an external switch on the 4xe cowl. I might hang onto my 9100 SwitchPros and install that (back in the box from another vehicle)... use one of those circuits. Great, one more piece to the puzzle lol...

Very interested in your compressor mount since that is where I was looking at

Couple things I would think are important:
1. Run a larger line from tank to 4XE port with a wye and two 45 elbows to avoid any ninety degree fittings if you can or whatever fitting works then reduce to the ARB outlet size to go into the air ports
2. I like to keep my compressor inside and cool, if you want to put in underneath in the elements and dust, consider putting remote air intakes up high under cap of bed.
3. Keep your air lines as short and as big as possible.
4. The new brushless compressors look great not cheap but great……Jack

Definitely agree. I want it to FLOW! Didn't think about Y connections, but that's a better idea than the T connections I had in mind!

I do want to keep the compressors clean and dry, intakes especially, but the compressors are so loud, and I've always pictured me airing up at the end of the trail with the kids knocked out in the back, and then bam, compressors kick on under the seats. Behind the rear seat might work, if they'd fit, then there's the tank too though, if I do that.

I like the idea of being outside, didn't care for under the hood cause of the heat which in my opinion is the biggest killer for electronics. I do not believe dust is a big deal since you're not running the compressor while driving down a dirt trail and can route air intake above any water level you plan on crossing

I looked at the new brushless twin at the Overland Expo. It puts out 50% more CFMs, but it uses 50% more Amps too. At 90 Amps that is a lot of juice.
I’m in the same boat as to a twin in a toolbox and considering upgrading. I was thinking the efficiency of the brushless would keep the Amps between the brushed and brushless the same.

@Commodus I have had a single ARB under the hood of my JKU for over 6 years. It runs just fine to this day. Not to say it’s not better to keep it out of the elements. And I can understand once you invest in the twin ARB, especially the brushless as I was planning to mount one under the passenger seat.

Dang, a lot more amps!

My issue is always weight, and then space, lol... as in, too much weight and not enough space. Storage is at a premium in my Jeep, so filling an under seat spot with a compressor hurts. Behind the seat, hurts a little less, and would be more muffled, a bonus. I'd like whatever install to go either toward the back or middle at worst, for better weight distribution. I know it's small, just something I think about with every mod. No, I'll likely not notice a difference, but keeping this in mind with every mod, helps.

If you do this please take lots of pictures of the install. I might consider doing this as I think Jeep did this for one of the Easter Safari vehicles a few years ago.

I didn’t see a weight comparison between the brushed and brushless. I didn’t even think to ask.

I'd guess the difference between the two is negligible.

You can still use the Aux switch (any of the four) if you use it to control a large relay that supplies power to the compressor.
Maybe something like this?? I would be inclined to trust West Marine a bit more, but I’m not sure if this is its intended use.

Maybe even go to a 200 Amp relay (on Amazon).

@RacerAV I really like your idea of the 4XE cowl panel holding an air coupler. Too bad they don’t have one for the passenger side to match and have an air coupler mounted there as well.

Dude exactly! It would be awesome. I am going to get the AFE Snorkel after I do my hood swap... I might try to add a coupler to that cowl area at that point. Would be really nice to have a two line set up, air up driver side, take it off, passenger side, done. MAYBE I'd somehow be able to just hook up the air lines to the pass. side tires from the pass. side cowl, driver side tires from the driver side cowl, flip the switch and have it all fill simultaneously. Matching PSI across and doing it faster!

I mounted the Arb twin on the side wall of the bed, right rear corner and a 1.5 gal air tank underneath on the outside of the frame behind the right rear wheel. It’s a perfect fit, but a little tight to get at the hardware but workable.
