Friend of mine bought a new Glad Rubi from a local dealer, but it was traded from another dealer....

I found this device ziptyed under the glove box and there is a blue lit button on the driver kick. It seems like it does nothing. Whoever installed it did the wiring harness no service.......I'd be pissed!

Anyone know what this is? I'd like to pull it if it's a junk immobilizer as they usually fail eventually even when disabled.

Aim your phone at the Q code on it and see what comes up.

Probably a junk immobilizer, like you said. Might also be a GPS tracker. Doesn't really matter what it is, it's almost certainly not a good thing, and would do your buddy best if it were wired into the trashcan.

Probably a GPS tracking device. A lot of dealers install them in every vehicle that rolls on their lot. No they don't remove them once they sell them, it makes them easier to repo later.

There are at least 2, maybe 3, threads and many posts on this exact sort of thing.

Probably a GPS tracking device. A lot of dealers install them in every vehicle that rolls on their lot. No they don't remove them once they sell them, it makes them easier to repo later.
They even install them on pre-sold vehicles when the buyer pays CASH (like in my case)
I ordered the truck, no financing, it arrived early one day, I went and picked it up later that same day, it was all paid for - and there was the device. SIM card and all.
Luckily there were no tapped or poked wires. I'd have been very pissed had they hacked any wires to install anything.
In the OP's case here they cut into the factory harness to put their GPS device in - I'd tell them they owe me a wiring harness. It's totally unacceptable to slice into insulation in a vehicle that's rated for 30" of water and 24 hours or whatever in rain with the roof off.
You just don't tap into wires on a NEW vehicle.

Anyway, there's other very long threads that explain all of this, what the devices are, what they do or don't do, and more.

Yup just like the nano bot in the Covid vaccine.🤪
I mean really if they want to track you, there’s a really good chance you own a cellphone and…….
Seriously, what a crock of shit doing that tracking crap on a vehicle and not disclosing it to the owner.
Maybe it’s a conspiracy with divorce lawyers funding it.😏

I suspect its an immobilizer with the way the brown wire in the first pic is clipped and intercepted. No reason for a tracker to require this many wires.

How about the finance company giving a kick back to dealer so they can find vehicle easier for repo??

Yeah, I would be screaming for a new harness if me. "T-Taps" are a bullshit splice device and coupled with how close to the termination ends some of those are at is also inviting future problems.

Buying with that undisclosed is on them and on them to make it right.
