I just got an email from Jeep advertising a navigation map update for $99 (normally $150). All my other cars updated for free so this is lame...

Has anybody bought this update? Is it just updated maps or are there other updates?

Jeep is not the only company to do this.

This is why I have a Garmin and always will.

I used to get this email every year from Chevy for my Silverado also(same price too). I did it once in the 6 years I owned the truck as they had opened a new toll road by us the previous year that wasn't on my current map. I did the update and the toll road was there, but wasn't connected so the map would never route me to take it. It also would show us off any road while you were on the flyover to get on the toll road. The update was worthless.

For our Subaru, we also get these emails too, but the first 2 years of ownership the map update is free and you download them. So I of course download those regardless. Free is free.

Google maps via car play.
I personally like having integrated Navigation, even if I rarely use it. I just like driving with the map up. All of our 3 cars have CarPlay, but only one of them doesn't have an integrated nav. and it sucks when we're in an area that doesn't have reception and the map goes blank.

Not a fan of Google but It works and works well. I have a Garmin with lifetime updates but have been using my cell phone and Google Maps instead. It works better and is always current. So I seriously doubt I will ever pay for an update for the Jeep NAV system.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll hold off for now. There aren't any new roads near me anyways.

I got the same email yesterday. I wasn't sure how it gets updated..... if it was a download through Uconnect or if they sent something to upload.

I have not used Uconnect and never plan to. So, if its an over the air download I'll skip it.

I'm curious of that too. I know for my Chevy, after you ordered it they would send you an update in the mail on a pretty nice looking thumb drive in DVD style case. The update was formatted to your VIN only so no sharing. After plugging it in, it took about 20 minutes to upload and then the thumb drive was locked and you couldn't even use the thumb drive for other things.

On our Subaru you go to the website and log in, which takes you to a portal to download the update. Once downloaded you use your own thumb drive and it also takes about 20 minutes to upload to the car. If directly uploading from a device takes 20 minutes, then I can't imagine how long it would take via a wireless connection then.

I’m pretty sure its downloaded though Uconnect, just like other (free) updates are.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be passing on it.
