Hey OP!

im over by Williston working currently and got to see this weather first hand… the snow definitely froze too quick to the ground and then we got that drizzle that froze over everything…. Definitely not fun.

imo…all tires except dedicated snows would have issues driving around.

Hello,

in need of winter-all season tires for my Willy’s Diesel. Love the KO2’s in general, but they have failed the first minor snowfall/compact snow of the year alarmingly here in ND.

I do no trail running, mud running, etc., and would be fine with putting on a dedicated road tire. NOT the Duellers…they too we not safe when I had on my F-150.

My brother runs Falken Wildpeaks on his Wrangler, any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

With a Willy's Edition, I think you might have KM2s(M/T) and not KO2s(A/T)
If so, the KM2s aren't great in snow. Going to an A/T like the Wildpeaks, KO2, etc... should improve snow traction. If you are already on KO2s and aren't happy with them in snow, you should just go to a snow tire for winter.

I'll add to my post above.

I had originally got k02s in 35 on my Rubicon.

Hated the winter with them and went to 37 Grapplers. They look awesome, but it snow and rain I felt like a prius.

Fast forward to Mojave - found a thread on the Kenda.

Super excited to try them out, so far I'm impressed.

I'll agree with a lot though, the Hakkapalita is by far my favorite winter tire I've ever had.

To continue my long post, I was running around 35 PSI on Highway 10.

I think I'd like to bump it up to 38-40 while to get a little more PSI on the tread to snow connection.

Hi,

What size are you looking to buy? I might have a couple of recommendations.

Get Duratracs. Up here in Manitoba are the most popular tires. And we know a thing or two about snow and ice.

Duratracs are great snow tires. I don't like them year around. They need to be rotated a lot to keep flat. Once they wear a bit they get loud. I also thought the Falken AT3s were very good and they were quiet and wore well. I might be interested in trying the General ATX but haven't yet. Of stay away from the BFG ko2s. They are terrible on wet sloppy stuff.
You might be surprised... I just spent an hour and half with my tire guy looking for tires. I asked for 37s or 35s There is not much available. I had to settle for tired I didn't want and for a price I didn't like because I could get them. Crazy times!

Fully agreed on multiple tires, but I’m hoping someone points me to a tire I haven’t checked out yet.

As this is my first Jeep product, I’m learning about a ton of different tires I’ve never been exposed to before. 😂

Thanks for the advice and reply, appreciated!
Based on the Internet, the following non-KO2 or dedicated winter tires for you would be:

Heavier:
Falken Wildpeak AT3W
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T (Good luck finding these)

Lighter:
Goodyear Ultraterrains - basically upgraded Duratracs (Discount Tire exclusive)
General Grabber ATX (Good luck finding these)

I just replaced my stock Wildpeak with Ultraterrains. Unfortunately Denver hasn't had snow yet so no idea how they do, but I'm headed into the mountains tomorrow. Maybe I'll find a good road to test them.

Now I’m going to have to go out in the blizzard and check😂. Thanks for pointing that out.

If your budget allows, I'd do a good A/T (I have the Wildpeak AT3Ws which are supposed to be severe snow/ice rated) and when the snow sticks and temps drop enough, switch to stock rims and 35 (ish) inch Nokian Small to Medium Truck Winter tires (I think it's the LT3s that I use). You can get the stock rims dirt cheap pretty much anywhere. If you're not lifted, get a smaller size of tire course.--They aren't cheap but I've found the Nokian Hakka family to last far longer than blizzaks and comparable other winter tires with little trade-off in winter traction. I can't wait to see how my truck does with rear LSD, selectrac and winter tires. It did perfectly fine last winter with the stock M/Ts for a month or two before I switched to bigger rims and the AT3ws.
