Ok guys and gals I have a set of 17x6 rims that I had on a Commander and I though I would use them on my Gladiator Overland. If I put a 3" lift on my Overland can I run the 35x12.50x17 on these wheels with no issues or do I need a different wheel. I really want to under stand the 17x6 stamping inside the wheel, I know the 17 is the rim diameter but what is the 6.....width or back spacing?

It's the width of the wheel, so mine are 17x8.5, which are probably closer to what you would want/need. I think the minimum width for a 35 may be 7.5" depending on tire manufacturer specs.

Backspacing/Offset have to do with where the hub is in relation to the centerline of the wheel.
In the diagram below they label backspacing (BS) and offset (OF) to show examples of positive/negative offset and amounts of backspacing.

New wheels or narrower tires.
And don’t forget the lug pattern. The Gladiator uses a 5x5 (127mm) pattern.

Can you post a pic of the stamping you see?

They are likely 6" backspacing and 7" or 7.5" wide. I don't think Jeep put a 6" wide wheel on Commanders.

Bolt pattern is 5 on 5, so you're good there.

Do you still have tires on the wheels, or can you measure between the bead mounting surfaces to get the wheel width?

AFAIK, the commander wheels are 17x7.5, 5x5, et42. They should bolt right up and accept a 35x11.5r17. Just measure them to be sure.

Those are 17x8.5 with an offset of -6, or a 4.5" backspace.

Ok thanks...can I run 35's on them or is that not going to be enough clearance on the back side?

@AHenry014 is correct, 17x8.5 with -6mm offset and 4.5" backspacing.

I thought you had stock Commander wheels, but you never said that.

You'll have plenty of room for 12.50 wide tires with these wheels. The tires will stick out 2-3" past the flares.
