Nemo Tunnel and Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary (Knoxville, TN area)

Headed to east TN with the wife for our yearly TN trip and happened to find videos and info on these two. Anyone been there , especially lately and is it worth the 2 hour drive from Gatlinburg area? Looks really cool online and we are thinking about making a day trip out of it. Thanks!

Been through Nemo tunnel several times in a Wrangler. It's pretty cool. Not sure if it's prone to flooding, but we've gotten a ton of rain this past week.

had a blast at the tunnel yesterday. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cool place to visit. Stopped at the Brushy Mountain Penitentiary but unfortunately they were closed on Wednesdays starting 2 days prior. Owner was nice enough to let us in a look around the gift shop and we could drive up to the prison, just couldn’t do the tour. Was still a fun day!

Awesome. Glad you had fun there. I checked out Nemo a couple weekends ago, and did the Brushy Tour. First time for both and I am actually from these parts.

Yes it was a train tunnel at one point but there is a new still active one so this one is for play now. Wartburg, TN about 30 minutes west of Knoxville. Lots of good wheeling and places to see close by.

I took the gladiator up that way yesterday for the first time. Rode around a bit there at Nemo, and then visited the old abandoned train about 20 miles away.

Well it happened… LOL. Highly recommend this trip. Super easy as far as skill level goes. Nothing that can damage your vehicle unless you go off the beaten path. 2 wheel drive SUVs were going through with no problems.
