The difference is that the Explorer SUV from day 1 was a compact to mid-size vehicle with V6 power as it's top offering that was geared mainly toward the urban life.

The Blazer should be compared to Bronco. Those are the two vehicles that compared apples to apples in a prior life. And it appears that Ford got the memo, but GM didn't, because GM totally neutered the Blazer and ruined one of their most hallowed nameplates.
