If you don’t have wheels with deep valve recesses like the Borah and or don’t use a locking chuck like the ones that come with PowerTank inflators, then this probably isn’t for you. You can chuck off. Byeeee….
If like me you have Borah wheels and use a press on locking chuck, you’ve probably found airing up these wheels is a frustrating exercise. I actually broke the valve stem on one of my wheels the other day (don’t use “metal” valve stems, use the rubber/brass ones). After detentioning the beadlock, breaking the bead, replacing the valve stem on my TPMS and retorquing the beadlock I decided to look for a solution to not being able to get the chuck off the valve stem.
My Haltec locking chucks that I use for my DIY 4 wheel inflation system don’t have this problem.

Thats only because they have an aggressive ridge and I’ve made a tool to unlock them out of an automotive trim removal tool. They’re still not fun to remove.
The chuck on my PowerTank inflator however is almost impossible to remove because you can’t reach the collar. As seen below, it’s short, and the grooves are shallow.
Well, PowerTank has designed their own chuck to solve this problem. It’s longer, has an angled section, it’s got more aggressive ridges and it’s rebuildable. Not only that but PowerTank will actually credit you back some money if you return the old version to them. There’s a link for the return process on the product page for the new chuck. Pretty cool! I’ve tested this new chuck and it’s fantastic. No more struggling to release the chuck on my Borahs!!
