Okay, so now moving onto 3rd Jeep Dealer/Service Dept to get ESS warning light taken care of......let's hope this one can get it done. I don't ask for much, just when I set an appointment time(9:00AM) and call at 1:30 that same day, only to find out it still hasn't been looked at, I begin to wonder about need to set an appt?
@JeepCares- for you guys(1st attempt at a fix was at Mclarty Daniel Springdale, AR; 2nd dealer was Breeden Jeep in Ft Smith, will now be taking it to Lewis Jeep in Fayetteville, AR, who can't get me in for "diagnostics" until next week!)

wish me luck, maybe third time will be the charm! Hope no else gets this warning light!

I had good luck with McLarty in Bentonville; can't speak about Springdale.

Did anyone replace the motorcycle battery yet or just put an OBD-II reader on it?

1st dealer "forgot" to even look at the issue when they had it for a day, 2nd dealer hooked it up and "thinks" it is a faulty Door switch, but never got to it today after having it for a day, they did order the part, but I live an hour away and couldn't leave it, so now onto 3rd dealer...the big problem is the 3rd dealer says they have to hook it up themselves and diagnosis it rather than order the door switch which I gave them the part number for from dealer #2....that will mean another day to leave it, diagnosis, then order part for another day to replace.....
maybe @JeepCares could "light a fire" under these dealers to get them straightened out!

Funny though, first dealer had my Jeep labeled '2020 Aston Martin" on work order, and 2nd dealer had it labeled "2020 Grand Cherokee"....clueless....people, it's a Gladiator....everyone say it with me....G...L..A..D...I...A...T...O...R.....they have the right VIN.

Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge service departments are really the only thing that worries me in the whole deciding on buying a Gladiator process.

It is not a vehicle safety issue.
In most states including mine, it doesn't have to be a safety issue. It can be anything that would normally be covered under warranty. This includes anything that diminishes the value, use, or safety of the vehicle.

"The lemon law covers vehicle ā€œnonconformities,ā€ which it defines as the failure to conform
with an express warranty in a manner that substantially impairs the use, value or safety of
the motor vehicle."

I went though an ESS nightmare on another vehicle. The systems are fairly basic; a small battery, a power control relay and safety interlocking.

The bugger is the system readiness checks.

On the system I suffered through the normal method of failure is the power relay takes a dump and then the small battery doesnā€™t get charged and ultimately dies. If you just replace the battery you may or may not win. In my case I did the battery and the relay and it still didnā€™t get into readiness for over a month.

The whole interlock system is designed to ensure a restart when it shuts down which in our case means how to deal with missing doors because on all other vehicles it will restart when you open a door, activate full AC or change gear positions to get into or out of park etc. all so you can safely park and turn off the vehicle which is all good things.

Check the little battery for 12+ volts standing and running, make sure the power relay is grounded and lugs are tight.

Thanks, Iā€™ll relay that info to dealer #3 if/when I can set an appt

The sad part is you shouldnā€™t have to, they are the professionals who receive chassis specific training etc in addition to accumulated work experience.

Iā€™ve been to arbitration (look at the small print) in California and guess what, ā€œsafetyā€ is what the review panel looks at and makes its determination. Also, needs 30 days in the shop without a fix for the issue.

Hi propkillr,
We request private messages because we ask for personal information in order to connect a case specialist with a customer and their dealership to assist in the repair process. Should you ever experience a vehicle concern, we would be happy to assist you as well!
