It's simply computer stuff. I had a Renegade and it had the "modes" for driving. It defaulted to the "auto" mode which was simply so Jeep could maximize CAFE readouts. Everyone complained about the Renegades and how they drove primarily because of Auto. But the Sand Mode made it entirely different. It did all the things they say offroad plus does and it was fantastic in that mode with all the power compressed. It was a perfect national forest road driver. I actually loved mine, sort of miss some of it but it wouldn't go where the Gladiator will. They could easily put it on all of them if they wanted is my take.
