After being under the cover for the week when I opened the hood to disconnect the charger I found this.

Jeep Gladiator Oh Rats !! IMG_1396

Jeep Gladiator Oh Rats !! IMG_1397

That’s the power cable for my winch.
It also chewed the leads for my battery tender and left a turd on the ground underneath.
I was as going to name this thread “Dead Rat Walking” but I figured I should hold off on that until I find that the rat trap and poison work.
I will be putting rat poison under the hood when I store it for the week.
It didn’t touch the Chevy wiring.
At least it has good taste. lol.

No nests or ?, I think a critter came up into the warm engine bay, got stuck and tried to claw through the hood. Never found the critter, though...

And this was just on my driveway overnight!

Just pulling up a quilt for a little nap.

These cold snaps definitely cause the critters to move for a warm spot.

Spray some peppermint oil mixed with some water around there and set out some traps as well in your garage. When it warms up scout the area and see where they could be getting access and start working to block those areas.

Good luck, wife had one pop it's head out from her hood and look at her as she pulled into work. I got a few in a battery powered trap and spray peppermint as the weather changes.

The wife gets the garage. I keep mine in the driveway is why I cover it.
I’ll have to try the peppermint oil.
The best trap I’ve found is the electric one.
A few years ago I got 5 rats in one week and hardly see them any more but now and then one moves in and finds its end.
I also found fresh droppings in my pond filter housing in the back yard but no nest. The wire chewing is the bigger deal and can’t continue

I bought some fox urine and put some under the hood here and there. I did this after the critters got under my wife's Honda Civic and chewed through the computer system wiring. $700 later, I'm parking it in the garage every night now, and when outside, it gets the same fox urine treatment. Smells like....well you know....but it seems to work.

The cj5 that I have was parked for 10+ years. The rat nest and their toilet was on the intake manifold. The urine ate a hole through the cast iron. Acorns were packed tightly in the open hole in the manifold. Nuts!

A rodent chewed through the harness on my moms camery. $8000 was the bill to get it fixed. I found the pepermint oil at Lowes for half the price of amazon.

Ouch
My wife does home health care.
her client had to have all her wiring redone from being chewed up.
the Lowe’s here has it for about $2 less per bottle. I already ordered the Amazon one so it’s going to be that one for now. Lowes also sells a 1 gallon jug I’ll be looking at for refill.

It was a while ago, but the only time I’ve ever had a problem is when I covered a Jeep in the past. But others definitely have without.

I’m thinking the covered vehicle was the attraction. Possible while it was still warm.
