Driving along . I hear a thump on the roof. The radio resets . Off for a few seconds than resumes normal play ?? Any help would be appreciated.

Definitely the roof but anything up there is well secured and it comes and goes. . Checked the factory xm antenna is secure

Is the sound from the roof possibly actually coming from the speakers and could be some sort of surge through the electrical system that the speakers are picking up hence the radio reset as well?

I'm doing the hip bone leg bone approach. The roof is connected to nothing. The speakers are connected to the radio. . Which broke. Could it be a thwunk coming out of speakers...? That would go like ...'thwunk and then the radio went off'. I just don't see a dinosaur biting your roof being the problem. I do see Gremlins in the wiring... My 2c

Look for anything that would be a bare wire or loose connection of some sort. Good luck, electrical issues are the worst to chase down.
