Helping a buddy out. He just started making these open hood bump stops. So when you open your hood all the way - there is someplace soft to rest the hood against the windshield frame without damaging your paint or denting your hood.

Universal application so works with JT, Wranglers, CJs, Land Cruisers, you name it.

They're listed on eBay here

That's actually a really cool idea. No need to use the hood prop rod anymore with this and you get way more access to the engine bay

What I like about it is that it lets a lot more light in. That engine bay's just a black hole to these old dim eyes :)

It was very windy here earlier in the week. Sort of forgot I owned a Jeep while checking fluids. These would have been nice when my hood attempted to escape over the hardtop.

Wind sucks (or 'blows', I guess, technically). We get a ton of it here too. Especially this time of year. And that hood does make a really good sail.

I never use the prop rod and always lay the hood back. Nice idea. The black hood decal I use for glare helps protect the paint, as well as a good slow movement.

I think the OP's friend's idea might look and work better if they went vertical with the hood, installed on the on the hood. But still a nice idea!

I agree, they should be less pronounced and installed on the hood itself.

I installed hood struts on my last two jeeps so I didn’t have to use the support rod. If I need to do more serious work, the struts just pop off the ball so I can lay the hood against the windshield…which is a rare need.

I agree this is a very good idea. I use a towel or two in times I hinge my hood totally back. Occasionally in my shop but even that can be hit with a wind gust if the roll-up bay door is also open. That said, the hood is fairly heavy so it would take a good gust to flip it down.

Likewises, a strong gust could manage to make the prop rod dislocate its hold and nail the hood back all the way to the windshield. That would be a really strong gust in the right direction. But nothing is impossible, right? We do the best we can.

I think just bump stops like your buddy is marketing, are fine for most all natural conditions. Maybe he can come up with an optional verson that has rubber strap or a pair of tie downs made into the bump stops. Something similar to the early hood-down retainers used on earlier model hoods. But in UV resistant rubber, not metal with springs in them. But I'll repeat here that just these bump stops instead of hood scratching or looking for a couple of towels; these bumpers should be welcome additions for some.

I just throw a towel up there. Do it on both our JT and JK. No need to buy extra stuff when I have a closet full of towels. But.... those are good for some folks. No hate.

Neat idea…..

Tell your friend, he could sell them as a ‘bumper’ for some of the tri-fold tonneau covers that fold up and rest up against the hard top. The best part…you’d stick them to the tonneau cover and not the hard top. I have a Bakflip - that could probably benefit from a bigger bumpers back there.

Now that is actually a better idea. Especially since the bump stop would most likely be on the underside.

I think the idea is that many people are like you and have decals on hood (can't stick to them).

But, they are stick on. So you could just as easily stick them to hood instead of windshield frame if that's the look you want.
