Had 4.56 gears installed this week in the Overland. Much improved take off and Trans not hunting so much at highway speeds. I attached is a few photos of speedometer and tach.
I tell you after doing the gear change I’m not so sure 4.88 wouldn’t have even been better for the 8 speed.

I did the same, my High Altitude on 35" with 4.546 gears, runs MUCH better.

The title tells you the answer to that second question LOL
DUH! I just noticed that as the notification popped up...all I focused on was 4.56 haha...so many people going 4.88 and 5.13, I was hoping to see someone with 4.56 that liked them. I'm on 37's with my 4.10 manual transmission and think I only want to go 4.56 but don't want to regret it. I don't mind the drive now, but I do have a Pulsar and aftermarket exhaust. It was fine with 35's

Lol yea i know, just poking fun :)

Im on 35's with 4.10s. Not bad at all, just trying to finalize the gear hunting for me personally. The small step between 4.56 and 4.88 you wont see much difference, that is the extent of knowledge on this. If we were talking the JK 5 speed I know all about that haha

Yeah, I had a J 2012 JKR with 35's on 4.10 and didn't mind it either. Never re-geared, but this is my first jump to 37's and there is definitely a difference but I like my highway mpg's still and don't won't to totally lose that and 4.88 make me nervous in that sense, but I know most shops will recommend them. I do wonder why nobody considers 4.33 for 35's...maybe it just doesn't justify the cost for the slight bump in RPMs but with this engine and the manual transmission anyway there is a huge difference between 1900 RPMs and 2100 RPMs...I use 4th gear a lot now and get better gas mileage in 4th at 2100 RPM than I do in 5th at 1900 RPM...so 4.88 may not be that bad.

No engine mods yet. (thinking Super Charger, but waiting on bugs to work out)
I have the Yokohama Geolander X-AT 285/75/18 ~ specs says they are 35.1 tall. The more I drive the more I like it. Been taking it easy breaking in as the garage requested. I can actually accelerate in 8th gear at highway speed without immediate downshift. Alot more pep

Interesting, I’m guessing you are running true 35’s??

I’m running 315/70-17’s with 4.56 and my RPM’s at 65mph seem to be what yours are showing at 75mph? Around 2100 rpm

Seems odd

Yes my tires are 35.1 tall
but I did notice this weekend that my Tazer didn’t update to 4.56 it still was programmed to 3.73.
I need to recheck the rpm now. I tell you it shifts and performs much better with the right gear ratio programmed

What brand are you guys getting for gears? I ran a google search and only a few things popped up like yukon and nitro gear. I Wana go 5.13 gears for my 38s and 6spd manual. I hardly ever drive on the highway unless going on vacation. My 40 min commute is a lot of low speed high and low grades and corning from 25-45mph mixed in with a little stop and go traffic towards the end. Thoughts ???

I set mine with a JScan to 4.56, I also had to go to 33.25" to get the phone App and Speedo to jive.

I tested the App in my stock Grand Cherokee to ensure it was accurate.

If you never do highway, I think 5.13 will be way too much. I'm on 37's with the 6sp stock 4.10 and a Pulsar tuner and really think I only want to go 4.56 but will probably go 4.88 which I think will be too much for me, but seems to be the consensus with what everyone goes. The only people I see loving 5.13 (mind you just two or three vocal people on this forum) tow a lot and live in high altitudes.

Thanks. I'll have to do more research. What's this pulsar tune ?! Interested

I used Dana/Spicer gears.

As for the proper gearing, you are using a 6 speed that Im only familiar with due to this forum and 38's so BFT's! LOL Hopefully someone with that setup will chime in as well.

Edit; didn't see cgflyers post prior to mine.
