Driving to work today, the Gladiator shut down on me.
I went to change lanes and accelerate and all of a sudden, the DIC lit up, then engine light, and I was coasting.
The Speedometer was stuck at 60mph and the gas pedal was unresponsive. Fortunately the steering was working and I was able to coast to the shoulder.
I turned it off, and put it in run and checked DTCs with my Tazer
P0563 which is a System voltage high
I cleared it restarted and everything was fine.
Jeep P0563 System Voltage High
The battery supplies electricity to the ECM even when the ignition switch is OFF. This electricity allows the ECM to store data such as DTC history, freeze frame data, fuel trim values and other data. If the battery voltage falls below a minimum level, the ECM will conclude that there is a fault in the power supply circuit. The next time the engine starts, the ECM will turn on the MIL and a DTC will be set.
Symptoms
– Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) – Slow engine start – Low battery power
Causes
– Loose or missing alternator drive belt – Faulty alternator – Battery defective – Open or short system voltage circuit The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: The P0563 Jeep code is detected when the battery voltage detected by the ECM is more than a calibrated value
Kind of wondering if I should wait to see if this occurs again, or contact the dealer immediately.
In the meantime, I am going to check around the engine bay and verify that the grounding cables are all solidly attached.
I am hoping this is not just the first warning shot for me having battery issues.
