Hi all! I'm never been much to haul about anything aside from bicycles in my trucks. Obviously once in a while there's other things, but anyway! I'm thinking about picking up a paddle board and wondered how well it would work with a roll up tonneau cover. I assume I would have to have some sort of rack to set it on and do you think the trail rail would be a good option to add to help out with this? I haven't ordered my truck yet (waiting for Hydro Blue...) so I can still add the trail rail if it really helps out THAT much...seems kind of pricey.

You could probably just angle it to sit in the front of the bed and rest on the tailgate, then strap it down. But that depends on how nice of a paddleboard you have since that might scuff it up a little.

We have a couple of inflatable boards from Tower. Incredibly rigid when inflated. Roll up snug and backpack available. Takes 7 minutes to inflate my hand or same with available pump. We have the Adventurer 2. Love them.

I’m trying to figure out a solution currently. I race SUP around the country and used to have a full cage on my old Jeep, with special pddle board racks attached. I can’t seem to find a current option.... my board is 14ft long, so storing in the bed isn’t an option. Most paddle boards are 10ft and above, I wouldn’t recommend driving with one in the bed. Anyone hear of any racks for the bed or hardtop that are safe?

No I haven't. I really haven't looked lately though. I live in Iowa and got my truck at the end of November so I haven't had a need for it yet. We are finally starting to warm up though!

Made it out this weekend. Used a soft top surfboard strap to attach it to the tailgate in the midway down mode. I have an 11' board so it did stick out a bit but I was able to close the bed cover.

The tailgate strap would work well for short distances but getting the board on a rack is the best option to avoid the board bouncing and scratches. That's my end goal.

Here’s how I roll with a 12’6” SUP. Hooke road Roof racks work great alone ($129 anazon) and with the bed extender in the upright position ($70) accommodates a 15Ft canoe for longer trips. For the local reservoirs just let it hang out there!

I use Thule gutter racks. I used the same setup on my JKU and never had an issue. My SUPs are 10’6 and smaller. This is the 10’6. For a 12’ I would move my front rack more foreword but it would work.

I’m thinking about doing a bed mount rack as well.

I’ve been looking at bed mount racks for my 14ft, but than I can’t use my cover. Ric is that coming out of trailer hitch?
