Painting Skid Plates

Just thought I would show you what I have done with my Mojave, front skid plate, and my lower control arm skid plates.

I also painted my Mojave skid black mainly because I put a front hitch on and had to cut a pretty big square hole and it showed up when silver, but disappeared when painted, I sanded the skid a lot, all around drilled drain holes larger in corner , but my paint job is starting to get nicked. Going to have to redo. Yours looks nice. Just keep touch up paint for the LCA skids that are the first to get scratched….Jack

Yes, it is amazing how much the front skid plate disappear with that flat black paint, it took me by surprise.

i’m definitely keeping paint around to address the nicks down the road. For my lower control arms, I had them coat the steel before I painted them.

I plan on going in the opposite direction. This is the skid plate from my old FJ-40

I figured if anyone could read that, I surely needed HELP.

From my Search and Rescue experience in our local area we have quite a few vehicles go off the road and down into creeks or river 'canyons' upside down and they are not visible from the air or even a road search due to the dark nature of the underside of most vehicles. When my Gladiator is up on a rack, it will get the same treatment on all the belly skid plates. My front plate is an Oracle Lighting skid plate so it will remain black.

Thanks. I've had them 8 months or so, but I drive very little so not tons of 'operational hours'. I have the yellows light and was motivated to get them last year after attending the King of the Hammers race where the dust in the whole area can get crazy. I saw how much the yellow cut through the dust, and with these being as low as you can get, even better. I did make an HDPE (High-density polyethylene) cover that can bolt on to protect them if doing rock crawling, but 97.26% of the time they should be fine without it.

Planning on getting Diode Dynamics SS3 yellow fog Max for the dust and fog cutting and the reasons you gave.
