What a nightmare........
Only have 600 miles on my new Mojave and I normally enjoy changing oil in my trucks. Especially in one that is so easy as the Gladiator. But, I was gonna use the free changes since they are included. Now, I'm re-thinking that move. But, as others have said, it can happen at any dealership and a good after-check would be prudent.

A torque wrench, some quality synth oil, an oil filter, and about 30 mins of my time every 7500 miles is worth the peace of mind and keeping it out of the dealer's hands.

I contacted Jeep Cares and told my story of woe. They were going to file a complaints to the corporate facet that handles dealer issues.

The situation really sucks. At almost any shop, they assign Bill & Ted or Beavis & Butthead to do oil changes. Sure, the process isn't complicated, but it is an extremely critical procedure; mess it up and an engine is destroyed.

Apparently, shops figure it's cheaper to keep using high school dropouts at minimum wage even if they have to replace a few engines. My beef with that is they don't install a new engine. They install an engine from a salvage yard. Did the previous owner of said engine properly maintain it? These days, not likely. Did the previous owner imagine himself as a character in a Fast & Furious movie and thrash that engine to the ragged edges of destruction before he rolled the vehicle? Could be...

So, yeah. Although I got free oil changes when I bought my truck, I change my own oil. There is a local, independent shop down the street from me which I trust. But a full synthetic oil change there is just over $100. That's the price we have to pay to get competent technicians to change oil. I get that. I'm still happy to do it myself.

Its so easy to do on the jeep i feel guilty not doing myself. It drives me nuts that I have to go back and re-torque everything after every oil change If I let the dealer do it... I would prefer to save myself the aggravation.

When the oil cooler went out on our JKU the warranty certainly replaced it but they didn’t clean all that old oil from the entire undercarriage. As an aircraft mechanic, the job isn’t complete till every thing is clean.

Normally I am in the camp of always doing it yourself but with this being my first custom order and $50K+ purchase, I wanted to use the Jeep Wave program to have my first four services on record as dealer performed for warranty purposes.

First Jeep Wave service I took it into a dealership I had never used since they had and "Express Lane" service for oil changes. They over filled it with 6 quarts instead of the new 5 quart spec. Swore them off and just Mityvac the one quart out.

Second Jeep Wave service I went to my normal dealer and for all intents, it appeared they did everything correctly with no complaints.

Third Jeep Wave service I had my doubts they even changed the oil filter and suspect they did not let my old oil fully drain as inspection of the dipstick for level showed a somewhat dirty oil. Kicker was it was delivered back with all the tire valve stem caps missing. Sent the service advisor back and he came back with 3 different style of caps that were not OEM and had to send him back again to get the correct ones.

That leaves me with my fourth and final Jeep Wave service remaining and I am coming up within 2 weeks of needing it. Really on the fence and leaning to just doing it myself but still undecided.

The previous posters are right, it is the B Team doing the oil changes. If one is not savvy to check their work afterwards, just forego and do it yourself or have an indy shop you trust do the work instead.

Enticed by the Jeep WAVE Program I brought my ride to the dealership for the oils change and tire rotation. One mile down the road after the service the LOW OIL PRESSURE light comes on, 3psi. Pulled over opened the hood, oil every f’ing where. Underneath it was dripping enough to form a good sized puddle.
They tried to make it right, sent a loaner and a tow. I was explicit in cleaning both the undercarriage and engine compartment. They said they would hand wash it as well. 4 hours later I get the call that it was a loose oil fill cap and that I can come pick it up TOMORROW... they didn’t have time to wash it.

I would say it was probably the oil filter cap left loose not the oil filler cap.

The newest/dumbest kid gets put on oil change duty because they need experienced techs to do the more technical and difficult jobs. Which is why I'm paying out of pocket to change my oil at home rather than using the wave program.

Not starting another oil thread, but I buy my own oil (Amsoil Signature Series), Mopar oil filter and give my Mechanic $20 to change and lube. I stay clean and it’s worth knowing it’s done right!

I'm using the same oil in mine but with the fram ultra filter. Not a cheap way to go, but neither was the gladiator

Reason I have my Indy Mechanic do the oil change, on my last JK, oil drain plug had issues coming out. My Mechanic had to get a new plug. Could just see my Wife’s reaction if I got oil all over our driveway if I did it myself.

The reason I use the Mopar oil filter, my friend used to be a mechanic for another make dealership. He said they had an ‘out’ if you had an engine problem due to oil starvation using a brand other than the manufacturer’s, saying it was the failure. They won’t say that about their own filters!

They would need to prove the filter caused the oil starvation. The magnuson-moss act prevents them from denying a warranty claim based on the fact their name isn't on the box.
