Propane under the bed

I'd seen frame mounted Propane tanks for RVs. Wondering if anyone has ever done one to a JT. I prefer the look of an AluCab with a bottle on the back. Wondering how I can hide it.

Of course having compressed explosive gas under an offroad vehicle sounds like a Darwin Award waiting to happen, but figured I'd throw out the idea.

We can be serious about the idea at first and then make fun of it later.

My only real comment is if you do hide it, be sure to have some type of signage alerting emergency responders in the event you're in a wreck.

Fair. I was trying to figure it out, but unless I want to put it where the spare was, there are not many areas.

If you remove the spare and the heat shield you might find enough real estate as far as possible from the exhaust.

As a first responder, install it in the bed in a secure holder. In the 23 years I've been a firefighter, every car fire I've been involved with has had heavy fire under it at some point. Every single one of the hundreds.

How much propane are you using on a camping trip? Unless you're overlanding for a month at a time it's not like you need a 20lb bottle.

my motorhome has an onboard propane tank mounted behind one of the doors, and quite frankly, it can be a pain to get it filled in remote areas. In fact, I carry two exchange size tanks and have a regulator and hose that allows me to use the exterior propane port to connect these smaller tanks to the motorhome…just have to shut off the onboard tank and connect a smaller tank.

Two years ago on our winter trip, I had a hard time finding someone to fill our onboard propane tank in Northern Arizona/southern Utah. At the truck stops, it was too cold, short staffed, storm on the horizon or some other stupid reason. We stopped at 7 places over 250 miles, and finally found a KOA that would fill our onboard tank. At that time, I only had one full portable tank that was full, so swapped the empty at a Home Depot. I‘ve even thought of replacing the onboard propane with two portable tanks I could swap at Home Depot or other store in a pinch, but taking along two portable tanks has solved our problem.

We spend a lot of time boon-docking, so it can be hard to find places to fill an onboard tank when it runs low...
