I’m replacing my stock rear drive shaft this weekend, and am looking for tips to avoid surprises after removing the old one. I’m replacing it with a Dana two piece heavy duty 1350 3” OD steel shaft. It’s supposedly a direct bolt on, and is rated for severe off road use and lifts up to 6.5”. I’m at 4” or so in the rear. The transfer case connection is an 8 bolt CV, but includes bolt types I’m not familiar with. I included pictures of the bolts in question, along with pictures of both shaft ends and the existing axle connection. The rear is a 1350 u joint with a flat 6 hole flange. For anyone who has replaced their rear shaft, what needs to be removed from the rear pinion connection to switch to this joint, from the stock 8 bolt CV? Are there any considerations regarding rotation of the transfer case or rear differential I should be aware of? Thanks in advance. The link below shows specs from Dana for the new shaft.

Bump. Any advice from someone who has replaced their rear drive shaft? The Dana Spicer part number for this replacement drive shaft is 10132305. Thanks.

Edit: I now realize I need to raise the pinion angle to 0-1 degrees, meaning I need to replace my rear control arms with adjustable CA’s. So it’s not happening this weekend. More parts, more huge projects. Damn Jeeps. :)

No first hand knowledge but from the picture it looks like the replacement only uses 6 of the 8 original bolt locations due to the new style U-joint blocking the two holes.

That I confirmed as expected, as soon as I noticed the same thing. They’re just skipping two holes in the axle flange.

Do you still have your rear oem driveshaft???
I do. It’s functional and I don’t think it’s off balance at all, but has some significant scrapes.

I was at msv/coney flats… it rained for 15 mins before we got to the rock garden. There was a Toyota Stuck on the left side. The middle was to close to him, so I took the right line. I got my wheels up on the rocks, they slipped and I came down on a huge rock on my driveshaft and muffler. I tried moving but was stuck, Had to winch off. So yeah… gah

My barrel resonator is pretty beat to hell. It’s not long for this world.

I’m not sure I care though. It’s the only thing not well protected by my belly skid. Maybe I’ll just have an exhaust shop replace that short section with straight pipe.
