Turned out my fob died and vehicle went to some security lock mode

Judging from the FOB size it probably takes 2 “D” cell batteries...

maybe a small motorcycle batterie, or marine battery so that it's just as water resistant as the interior of the JT, lol

My Fusion used to warn me when the battery was low in my fob as a nice warning before it became an issue. Any chance we have that, or at least those with proximity locks? With the exception of OP, I imagine our batteries aren't old enough to know...but maybe someone coming over from JL life knows?

So if we're up in the hills and our fod dies we're stranded? Any way to get it running without it?
My Indian Motorcycle at least has a way to enter in a code to operate without the fob.

Supposedly you can start by pushing the start button with the loop on the fob, even with dead fob battery. So no, you won't get stranded.
