Not sure if this is the right spot for this post, but what's the best option to add a remote auto start? Is it better to go to the dealer and get the OEM option or go with an aftermarket solution? If so, what name brand? Thanks.

The OEM kit is like $400. Can get Viper for like $250-300. Or, get one of those supposed plug'n'play kit off Ebay for like $180 and take your chances.

The OEM kit should use the Jeep keyfob.
The aftermarket kits will use an additional remote.

Buy OEM Mopar online sites or from the dealer. Install yourself. Not hard to install. May need you key reprogrammed, small fee at dealer. 350.00 or so for the kit.

Bah! 395.00 https://store.mopar.com/accessories...ies-remote_start/remote_start_82215957AD.html

One of the reasons I am holding out for the mopar device is I think ( think) it will be less wear on the lock solenoids. I could be wrong. These other vendors while nice require 3 hits on the lock button to start the Jeep. I believe the Mopar requires two. Open to correction or other opinions.

Not going so well, got the Mapr kit at off season discount but still requires significant dealer configuration DURING the install. I was hoping to complete the install and deliver to dealer for final key config ( Just like I did on my 2013 F150). Does not appear to be the case with this product. Will know more on Monday.

I installed it yesterday and neither the keys that came with it or the old keys would start the JT( by button or by contact). "Key Fob not detected". Neither keys, old or new, would do any locking or unlocking.

I took my 2021 JT to the dealership last Saturday(9/4/2021) to have remote start installed and they ran into issues. The job should have taken 2 hours and I am still waiting for the job to be completed. The issue is now referred to a accessory engineer, but still no end in sight.

Update: Just got back from the dealership and my remote start issue is fixed. There is no need to replace the module. The module has remote start built in. Only need the sales code flashed and keys programmed to the vehicle. FCA Engineer suggested to try it and it worked! JT 2021 Overland

I wonder if that's like auto high beam headlights - all the stuff is there, just needs to be enabled, etc. - if so, then something like AlfaOBD could check the boxes or enable it - MAYBE.
Then you'd still need the dealer to add the sales code to that VIN with corporate, so that next time the modules were flashed for any reason like some upgrade or patch, the setup wouldn't be lost.

When I added the passive locks to mine, I had it all set up and working, went to the dealer's shop and asked them to contact Jeep, have the sales code added to my VIN.
They did, then got the new configuration for my Jeep, flashed it to make sure it really WAS included and tested everything. No charge. So now if they re-flash my system with some update or patch, my VIN has passive entry and it won't be lost with the flash.

But sounds like there's a bit more involved with the remote start due to the key FOB.......

Was the price the same between getting a new module or just getting it flashed? I went to my dealership yesterday about getting a remote start for my 2020 Overland. I told them I don't know if I need a new module or just the flashed but they said after running the VIN# that I need a new module which I'm not really sure about.

From my understanding, the 2020 JT Overland will need the new module. The 2021 JT Overland will just need the flash. I am not sure why they made this change, but I have to assume the lack of semiconductor devices and only producing 1 module might have something to do with it.

Thank you ever much for the info! It makes sense now!
