Super newb question about spray painting door and hood hinges. I’m interested in popping off my Gator green hinges and hitting them a Mopar black can of spray paint.

Would love to hear if anyone with experience has advice for if I first need do anything more complicated like stripping original paint, primer, paint, clear coat, etc. or is one able to paint over the original hinge paint without issue as long as it’s cleaned up or oils, dirt etc. Thanks y’all!

Be careful the hinges are painted after the hinges are installed on the truck. Taking the hinges off the truck could result in chipping some of the paint close to the contact area. I would try taping them off and using plastic dip to see if I liked the outcome first.

Why don’t you leave them on, and use Plasti Dip? It would be a shame to devalue your new Jeep by messing up the factory paint.

Sounds like a great plan! Thanks for the advice! Plasti Dip FTW.

Who has used the Plasti dip on hinges? Any pics? I m debating doing mine. Was thinking about powder coating, but Plasti dip would be easier and quicker.
