. I use a barrel of water too but prefer the lethal approach to minimize any suffering.
But you can't always be there, in all places, all the time. The water bucket trick works in as many places as you have buckets, and it's 24/8 and one can capture multiple critters in a single day while you are out doing other stuff.
With 3 acres, house, garage, shop, etc. it's hard to be all places at once. Chipmunks are typically early morning or evening critters, mice are mostly at night or outside of high noon hours, and 'coons are late evening although some have sauntered up to the house in the afternoon as well.
When chipmunks cause a shop floor to sink, costing you a whole lot of money to fix, you stop caring about how they feel and just deal with them. Sometimes the damage can't be easily reversed. One lady had those cute little furry critters cause 10 grand of damage to her basement wall. We've had them collapse retaining walls and had to pay about that much to have 'em replaced.
Savage 64f works well enough for me for dispatching the larger critters, the smaller ones, it's the bucket or the old, worn out, cheapy .17 pellet gun.

.22 Gamo pellet rifle sits at our rear slider. Inert Gas Ram. 1000 feet per second. Ground squirrels eat our food growing and burrow into our hill...causing slides. Massively destructive assholes. We kill the rabbits too...they eat our food. The hell with them all. Scope cost more than the rifle. It's sighted at 20 yards. Deadeye.Deadly.

For the home audio inclined that's a 2006 SVS PB12 Plus/2.

I looked at a few of those a while ago but have seen a bunch of reviews with issues... So have been considering one of these for all the ferrel cats around

I have not read the full thread but I want to remind everyone who leaves a vehicle outside to screen the engine air inlet. Here in Hawaii I have had critters go into the inlet and shred the MAF sensor and even though my air cleaners have metal screen inside for strength they shredded the fabric which blocked my airflow. Glad they didn't get past the air filter and on into the cylinders.

CEL has been on for the last few weeks, Kept getting P0325 - Combustion/Knock Sensor errors. Would take it to the dealer and they would say it was inactive, clear the code & send me on my way. Would come right back on a mile or two down the road. Took it back today to have them investigate deeper. They pulled the intake and intake manifold off to expose the valley of the engine. Low and behold, a rodent had made its way in there and chewed it all up. No wonder the PCM was going crazy....

Figured everyone could learn from my misfortune.

Find small bottles of fox urine. Open and leave under the hood.
