Hopefully, that's true. In my area, this would be about a $300 difference. Just trying to determine what I would need to budget for this cap.
Unfortunately, online sales are subject to state sales tax laws. If you are subject to paying a state sales tax where you live, you will have to pay the tax when you go to purchase the SmartCap. Legally, we have no control over that.

Thanks for the quick response RSI. That's unfortunate, but understandable.

A quick search showed that neither my state nor my distributor's state are required to charge internet sales tax, so hopefully I'll be off the hook. I'll budget for the worst though, and hopefully be pleasantly surprised when I have funds leftover.

I ordered from a Texas dealer to ship to Nevada. There should not be sales tax on it. I don't need help with assembly, so didn't pick a local dealer. If I got it from a local dealer, I would have to pay the 8.35% sales tax.

Generally, when a merchant sells and ships to a buyer outside the state, they are not required to collect sales tax unless they have a 'presence' in the state they are shipping to. Many states sued to try and get their income, since the residents would not report the purchases and pay the sales tax. Deals were made to avoid the lawsuits, and places like Amazon and Ebay now collect and remit sales tax based on the shipping address, even if it is not required.

@RSI North America Inc Do you have any mockups or images of what the full storage bin looks like on the Gladiator? I’m building a drawer system and I am trying to decide if I can get the Dometic on the same side as the bin. I’m thinking it’ll be a tight fit but I could eyeball it with a photo.

Just for the purpose of expectation management: RSI said in another thread that their shipment is slated to arrive in the states on October 27th, so chances are you won't see any delivered/installed until November.

If that changes, hopefully RSI will chime in.
I forgot there were 2 threads and this was the first one I found ‍♂.. thanks for the reply.

My distributor reached out and told me that the first batch of caps has reached the U.S.!

My order is paid in full. They said to expect the first batch of caps to start shipping about two weeks from now. I was planning for the end of November, so that's a pleasant surprise.

This is the final core piece to my build. Can't wait to get it mounted up!

I may be interested in looking yours over once installed...and I get into Nashville with some regularity.

For sure! I actually live just west, in Clarksville, but I too get over to Nashville from time to time.

I'll certainly have plenty of pictures and impressions up in my build thread (link is available beneath my avatar off to the left), but you're welcome to take a look in person once I get it on, if you'd like.

Also heard they were on the shore. Mine is PIF and I’m waiting for a shipping notification.

The dynamic load rating you quote here for RLD is wrong. You probably got it from watching the Rhino video, but they appear to have made a mistake. Here is a quote directly from RLD's website:

"The Jeep Gladiator Truck Cap from RLD Design is as unique as the Gladiator itself. Precision crafted completely of stainless steel using the latest technology, the RLD Gladiator Canopy is 5 axis CNC press bent to 3D CAD models, TIG welded, and finished with a heavy, textured powder coat (with paint-match options available). This is not your standard fiberglass truck cap. This rugged, long-lasting topper is ready for off-road adventures. Pre-fabricated access points along the triple rail reinforced steel roof allow mounting of rack systems and modular accessories including side cabinets and drop down tables. Not to mention the > 325 lb dynamic load capacity."

It appears that both RSI and RLD have similar dynamic load capacity (around 330 pounds).
You've got it backwards. That's the quote from Rhino (which you linked, not RLD) who under-quotes the actual spec. Though I guess technically they didn't since ">325lb" still includes over 700.

This is the quote from RLD's website:

Introducing the strongest canopy in the world for your Jeep Gladiator. RLD Design truck canopies are all 5-axis press bent and TIG welded stainless steel and come fully powder coated with specialty textured coating, offering superior durability and longevity, and incredible strength and load capacity (over 700 lbs dynamic load*). All canopies come standard with black rear and side doors. Optional, door color, paint matching, and RAL color code powder coating available by special order.

*Canopies are rated at 700lbs dynamic load, but please always check with your vehicle’s manufacturer as to the load of your truck bed.
So even if it's not 770, it's still far and away better than RSI.

Dynamic for the RSI Smartcap Evo is 330lbs. Static is 770lbs.

That's more than enough for anything I'm gonna put up there, and its by far the best looking topper in my opinion.

It's great the RLD claims a dynamic load limit of 700lbs, but I'm not sure I'd care to drive around with anything close to 700lbs on top of the JT, ESPECIALLY when going off-road!

It's all about the use case. 700lbs on top is pretty ridiculous but as I showed above, getting above 330lbs isn't hard.
