I was under the impression that the standard Rubicon version came with a winch ready front bumper. Am I mistaken? In the "build and price" jeep website there is an option for a $650 "winch ready" bumper. Anyone able to set me straight?

Comes with a plastic bumper. It’s $695 for the steel front bumper which is capable of a winch, however you still need to buy the winch plates to mount it with, a few $100 more.

and...in the jeep.com builder you have to add LED lighting to get the bumper. if that's the case, i'll pass and add a bumper later.

There is no shortage of aftermarket choices.

You’ll need an aftermarket winch mount plate to install into the Jeep steel bumper. It’s about a 1.5 to 2 hour job with the right tools and a pair of hands.

Good to know. Thanks for the information. Not worried about a little work, it is a Jeep. May be better just to wait for an aftermarket one. Trying to keep cost low for now but would want to add a winch fairly quickly as I have passed on too many trails because of not having one to assist in self rescue.

The winch cradles available are about 250 bucks from Maxximus and Warn

I believe JK front will fit JL which fits JT
I hope so. I learned the hard way that not all JK front bumpers fit the JL. The vendor stated that it fit, I got it and it wasn't even close. They wanted me to pay return shipping so I got stuck with it...

only thing I'm worried about here is I plan to get the trail cam option and I really don't want the winch assembly to obstruct the camera view. I wonder if the Jeep bumper has some special provision for this. Doubt it.

I guess it would depend on the bumper you put on the JT. The Mopar bumper looks as though the camera would see over it. However, if you got a winch mounted on top of a different type of bumper, it may obstruct the view. At least you can see where the wheels are pointed on the screen, lol!
